If you have version 7.03 already, is the version that is compatible with
Windows XP a free upgrade?

Hi,

No, the version that is compatible with Windows XP is version 7.1 and not a
free update from 7.03.

Level 2 has limited speech. Version 8 is supposed to have more I think.

speech, level 2 has speech and magnification. That's the difference.

version 7.03 of zoomtext isn't compatible with windows xp. I'm sure of that,
you would have to upgrade to 7.11 of zoomtext if you want a compatible
version.

Dear members,

While expectations arise, a stable, generic magnifier for the X Window
System is still far away. Therefore I try to resume the DynaMag project
that went inactive in 1994. I created a project on SourceForge.net in
order to get development on track.

- Unix/Linux users:
Please go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/dynamag/ Try Dynamag and
post your comments (feature requests, bug reports, etc.) on the project
page to generate a documentation base line for further development. I'm
currently going through the source code, which is about 1200 lines of C.
If you know a bit of C, please help!

Bas

Call Zoomtext and ask about a year support. I believe it costs about $99.
With it you will receive 2 upgrades included. Zoomtext 8 is scheduled to
come out in January. Anja

Well, there's inLarge and that's about it. I've heard that Mac's may have
started coming with a built-in magnifier again but if it's anything like the
previous one it's not worth turning on. You can check out inLarge at
http://www.aagi.com. Here's a link to the exact page with the system
requirements, cost, and description:
http://www.aagi.com/catalogue/ProductVersion.asp?502020

I haven't had great success with inLARGE. I found it to be somewhat
unreliable and crash but I didn't have great equipment either and I don't
know alot about Macs. Don't expect any speech feedback though. Unless
there's a strong underlying reason you need/want a Mac, I would suggest you
consider a Windows Machine for accessibility.

Glad to hear you're working on dynamag again as linux is getting
more and more important as an OS.

I'm wondering though, did you check out the gnopernicus project? I
had thought that the product seemed pretty complete with the link

Hey all,
For what it's worth, I've been using the zoom feature in Mac OSX
10.2 (Jaguar) and here are my observations.

First the good. It's very smooth and fast and makes the interface
beautiful. There are some speaking options also available under
universal access in OSX 10.2 as well. It will speak text under the
mouse and selected text in a document. You need to turn on this
with admin privilages though, or it won't work.

Now the bad. There is no tracking of the cursor whatsoever. Which
means the magnification wont track while you're typing and wont jump
to focus on a window you're in or where there is something
highlighted. I think this could be modified in the future though
but right now it's not implemented. In the meantime though it could
mean for slow typing as you have to move the mouse along to see what
you're typing. I think the same is true for the speech application
as well. The speech also has no typing echo. The only other thing
is that the zoom level is not remembered so that when you toggle it
off and on you have to zoom back to the level you had it set at.

But these features are stable and don't seem to slow down the OS at
all. Which is a good sign because if the other stuff could be fixed
somehow the overall experience would be really nice. It is useable
though if the above features aren't important.

Well ALVA makes this program called ENlarge for macintosh. I am not sure what
the number is to ALVA but I'm sure that you can find it if you look it up.

No, I haven't checked it out yet. According to the Gnome Accessibility
list the magnifier is far from complete. The project is still very hard
to build due to dependencies on Gnome libraries which are still in CVS
and will be release with a future version of the desktop environment
(2.1??).

The reason why I'm pushing DynaMag is the fact that Gnopernicus and KMag
both depend on a specific window manager (Gnome and KDE respectively).
This is just another constraint for us, because most UNIX systems
currently use CDE as their default window manager (like the Sun
workstations at my university). Therefore I'm trying to make DynaMag a
reasonable X magnifier, so we always have a backup scenario for UNIX.

Regards,
Bas

I am an inthuiastic ZoomText user. Now, it was said on this forum that ZT8 will
out in January then it's said in the spring. So, when is ZT8 coming out? It
is very confusing, does anyone have a real answer or is aiSquared pulling a fast
one on us.

Hello,

WordAloud allows sizes from 10 pnt to 150 pnt, with a choice of font
and text and background colours. Use capital 'M' to enlarge, and
lower case 'm' to decrease size. (Similar short cuts are available
for other variables.) The speech synthesiser has a choice
of voices, and you can vary speed, pitch and gap between words.
You can turn off the speech by going into text mode. Then you can vary
the speed of the word-at-a-time display, from 10 up to 1000 wpm approx.
Or you can step through the words at your own speed, by pressing 'down'
arrow to 'word level' and then pressing 'right' arrow to step.

Cheers from Chiswick,

John
