Hi! From my recollection doc reader has a tendency to do this. I never use
doc reader though as i find htat App Reader is a better option for reading
material with Zoom Text.

Hello, Everybody,

I tried using ThunderBird 3.0 with ZoomText, it is crazy. When I hit
Next for first message. If I wanted to scroll down using the keyboard,
like three tabs to the wide view. But, the tab keeps hopping around
these fancy buttons. It is driving me nuts... In both old Netscape 6/7
and SeaMonkey, I hit only 2 or 3 taabs. And use up/down arrow for scrolling.

For ThunderBird, I use Wide View from Layout menu in the View menu.

Let me know.

Thanks!

Johnny :)

Hi

I have been using a Nokia N82 handset with Nuance Talks and Zooms
installed with no issue for the last 2 and a half years. My handset
has now packed in, any suggestions for a suitable alternative? I liked
the N82 as it had it's own number pad (ie not a touchscreen or QWERTY)
and the buttons were fairly tactile.

Any suggestions for a decent Symbian phone which a visually impaired
person could use?

Thanks.

Hello, Everybody!

I have downloaded the latest and newest version of Java the free software.
I've tried it with the example website, like www.time.gov, and I noticed
that the Java messed up when I use ZoomText. The image from Java will NOT
magnify. It will just stick in the middle of my screen with the background
already magnified. It is frustrating for me. I can't see what I'm looking
through the whole screen, because of Java's inability of magnification.

Can someone help me with this?

Thank you.

Subject: Problem with FireFox and ZoomText at work only
johncunniff

Hello, Everybody,

I want to share with you about my recent upgrade (automatic) from ZoomText
9.18.3 to 9.18.9.135 at work. I use FireFox both at home & work. At home, I
use ZoomText 9.18.9.135 from my agency that ordered for me. Anyway, at home,
when I use ALT + [increase/decrease] for example, ALT + GREY - for
decreasing magnification or ALT <left arrow> to move magnification leftward.
It is no problem with my FireFox & ZoomText. Like if I want to write a
message to a low vision without ZoomText or a screen magnification, I
changed a font to a larger font, I can use ALT+(GREY -) -- ohhhh, I meant
number pad, excuse me. I am tired plus sweating because of weird weather
like an Indian Summer, haha. Well, anyway, that is ALT+NUMBERPAD+- that will
decrease magnification. Then, the magnification STAYS where it is
positioned. Great. My home PC recently installed FireFox 3.6.3 or 3.6.5
after my Hard Disk replacement. But, the problem from my work, I use
upgraded version from FireFox 3.5.5 (I think) but auto-updated to 3.6.6 or
so... My work's computer also uses recent newly updated ZoomText 9.18.9.135.
If I use FireFox, I hit ALT+NUMBERPAD+(+/-) or <arrow keys) then, the
magnification will jump to the top/left side of the window, I would see
"File" highlighted.I REALLY hate it!!! My home computer is NO PROBLEM. I
found it VERY strange.

I tried contacting Ai Squared Tech Support from work's e-mail,
unfortunately, the person did not understand me. I am so shocked. But, I
like for you to share your experience with FireFox & ZoomText 9.18.9.135.

Now, I LOVE new ZoomText. It is cool. But, all the features are too
confusing & complicated compared of ZT 7.1!!! LOL.

ZoomText 9.18 works great on FireFox & IE for accessing my reading ability
like typing what I see!!! Cool.

Thank you very much.

Johnny :)

Oh no, that problem again!
I know exactly what you mean. The problem with Firefox is that once you
press that Alt key the File menu item activates. That event is passed to
ZoomText which starts to track the File menu. The problem is Firefox, not
ZoomText. Firefox should only activate the File menu item after you release
the Alt key from a single key press, just like any other application.

Can you file a bug at mozilla.org?

Tnx.

Bas, yes, sir! That's not the problem with ZoomText. I agree. I noticed
FireFox activates the File menu when I pressed ALT key. I will go to
Mozilla's newsgroups to ask. Thanks.

Hello, Everybody!

I got a PDF file from my fellow secretary out-of-state. I tried to read
PDF file that I am using ZoomText 9.18.9.135 with Adobe Reader version 9
-- Very latest version that I updated that a week ago.

I have a problem reading Adobe files. It looks fuzzy in my reading. Have
any of you experienced problem reading like that? If not, let me know
how to solve a problem? I think it has to do with the settings.

Also, if the website itself has PDF file, like
http://www.mypage.com/files/myfile.pdf (for example), should you
recommend only the web browser or do you recommend the application to be
launched?

Let me know.

Thanks.

Johnny and Greg,

Not all PDF files are created equally.  Some PDF files contain actual text,
while others contain pictures of text.  If in fact this PDF is a file
containing a picture of text, I've seen that to render "fuzzy" with ZoomText.
You also will not be able to use App Reader nor Doc Reader to read "pictures" of
text as there is no "text" to be read.  One way to verify this, as Greg
suggested, is to make sure your Accessibillity is turned on and also make sure
it is set for BOTH Screen REaders and Screen Magnifiers.  There are 2 settings
to be turned on , one for each.  Then, under the View item on the Toolbar at
the top of the screen in PDF REader, select Read Aloud.  This is normally the
last option in the list.  If Read Aloud tells you your document is empty, it
will say something like "Document is Empty", or "Empty Document", I can't
remember for sure what it says exactly, but if it says something like this, then
you know you're looking at a
"picture of text".  In this case, there is nothing that ZoomText can do to
"read" the document, and the clarity that you see is as good as it gets, because
the picture is already "rendered" and will become pixilated or "fuzzy" when it
is enlarged.  You can make it slightly better by using the PDF Reader's Zoom
feature to zoom in much of the way, and then use ZoomText to make it big
enough.  It still won't be crystal clear if its a picture of text, but it will
be a bit better.

I hope this helps.  PDF's are truely a pain for Accessibility, especially if
the creator of the PDF doesn't have Accessibility turned on on their end when
they create the PDF.

Good luck!

Thank you,
Have a Great Day!

Karey Carbaugh

H! Just a thought! When you receive a PDF file it will be at a Zoom level
of lower than 100% . If you set the Zoom level in Acrobat reader to 100% it
should look clear and sharp. This is what i do and i have no trouble with
these files.

I am finding Hotmail is becoming harder and harder to use with magnification
programs, because of mouseovers, adverts etc. Does anyone know if there's a way
of disabling the mouseovers and/or making Hotmail easier to use on the internet?
It would be good if there was a very simple clear text version of Hotmail that
one could use. Or is there another way of accessing Hotmail emails on the
internet that's simpler? I know that accessing Hotmail via an email client is
the easiest way, but I need an easier webmail access.
Thanks

Hi,

You can just forward all e-mails to a decent GMail account...
That's the most practical way to go in my opinion.

Just my 5 cents.

There are a few options. None of them great. If you own MS Outlook then you can
connect to your Hotmail account directly from Outlook for no charge. If you
don't have Outlook you can upgrade your Hotmail account and be able to access it
from any e-mail client. I use Firefox with Adblock plus to reduce the amount of
junk on my screen. That may of help to you. I'm assuming you are using the
standard Windows Live interface. If you are using that then there shouldn't be
too much junk or mouse over items on your screen save for 5 items in the top
left corner.

I agree, I very strongly dislike the pull-downs at the top of the new Hotmail
screen.  I do, however, successfully use the Hotmail interface.  Most
everything in the pull-downs is available elsewhere on the screen.  So you can
pretty much ignore the pull-downs.

As has been suggested, you could also get an e-mail client and  could use POP3
to "POP" your e-mail from Hotmail.  You mentioned that you need an interface on
the web.  If this is the case, you could forward your Hotmail to GMAIL, has has
been suggested, or Yahoo!  i personally find GMAIL VERY hard to use with a
screen Magnifier.  The interface is quite different from Hotmail and Yahoo!

I have e-mail on alll 3 of these, Hotmail, GMAIL and Yahoo! and successfully use
all 3 with ZoomText.  Yahoo! and Hotmail are my preferences.

Thank you,
Have a Great Day!

Does anyone know why the App reader won't work on Internet explorer but it works
fine on other programs like Word and Outlook Express. I have Zoomtext 9.0 and
Internet Explorer 8.0 on a Windows XP machine. I get an error message that App
Reader was not able to find an open document window ID #9. It tells me to click
in my document window and start App reader again but I get the same message.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I believe this was a known problem in ZoomText 9.0 that was never fixed until
9.1.  You can upgrade to 9.1 and it works fine.  Unfortunately, this is not a
free upgrade.  I never got it to work on my home system which is still running
9.0, but it works fine on my work system which is running 9.18.

I hope this helps.

You're most welcome and first you might want to try the Trial version of 9.1 to
make sure that this fixes your problem.  You could also contact AI Squared
either by phone or e-mail to see if they have a better suggestion, or if you
could upgrade less expensively since you have a feature that is not working.  I
think that they told me a few weeks ago, or I saw on-line, that the upgrade is
only about $100, but I don't know if they could work with you since you have a
feature that isn't working.

Thank you,
