Among the different type of magnifiers available Dome Magnifiers is one of them.
It is a dome shaped magnifying device, which enlarges words of a page or a
computer screen. Most of these magnifiers have perimeters from 3 to 7 inches.
Visually impaired people mainly use them. They can be both made of glass or
acrylic. They are also good for reading maps and very tiny prints. The specialty
of this type of magnifier is that they can be directly put against the object
you intent to read, and switch on the light to provide illumination and you are
done.

Hello, Everybody!

I want to inform you that last night, I downloaded FireFox 4.0 to upgrade
over FireFox 3.6.16. Before the upgrade, everything worked nicely. If I
composed a message through Gmail, ZoomText tracks on cursor. But now with
the version 4.0, ZoomText will not follow the cursor. IK am typing like
blind -- I cannot read as I type unless I move my mouse to where the cursor
is. Pain in the neck.

I think it is a bug in FireFox...

Anyone using FireFox 4.0 yet?

Let me know.

Thanks.

I was able to reproduce this problem (tracking the cursor in Gmail). I
corrected the problem using ZoomText's "cursor detect" function. The
cursor detect function is invoked with a hotkey Ctrl + Alt + Shift + D.
You must have the cursor on the screen when doing this. ZoomText will
then display a message box indicating success or failure.

I recommend contacting support if this does not work.

Steve and Bas,

Finally, I did CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-D and found that to work OK for now. But, a
little weird behavior with tracking. But, not bad at all.

But, it works.

In combination with your iPhone built-in camera, ZoomReader from AI
Squared lets you magnify and read printed text by first taking a picture
of an object like a book or menu, then converts the image into text
using state-of-the-art Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology.
ZoomReader will then read the text back to you using a natural-sounding
voice.

Hi All,

In two weeks, I have to use Adobe Connect to participate in virtual
meetings. An Adobe rep said it's not compatible with Zoom Text but I didn't
get the impression he knows anything about Zoom Text. So now, I'm arranging
a pre-meeting test to see if Connect works for me. But in the meantime, has
anyone had a close encounter with this software? If so, how does it get
along with Zoom Text and what, if any, are the problems I can look forward
to?

On another topic, as you may recall, I asked the list serv last summer if QM
for Windows quant decision making software worked with ZT. I'm happy to
report that it does. That was a relief. I used it with the just magnifier
part of ZT though so I can't comment on the speech part.

Thanks,

Barbara

Hello, Everybody,

I want to inform you that since January of 2011, I have experienced getting a
Flash Player 10.1 Installer error. Before this, I noticed on-screen without an
error before ZoomText launches. (I am using ZoomText 9.18 from my work computer)
and Windows XP, too. After ZoomText is being launched, I moved my pointer
up/left to find that Flash Player brought a message that said: "Flash Player is
encountered an error - no message available." I got puzzled and confused. I had
no choice, but to close window. Then, later, today, I got the same thing. First,
I attempted to run an installation. I downloaded 3/4 of the file. ZoomText
launched. But, unfortunately, I got the SAME ERROR!! GRRR!!!

How can I fix this? I believe that ZoomText "destroyed" Adobe Flash Player
Installer on-screen instruction. GRR!!!

Let me know.

Thank you very much.

Johnny :)

Hello all,

I am using, or trying to use, ZoomText 9.1 with Windows 7, 32 bit. I find
that ZoomText frequently seems to freeze. The symptoms are sluggish
movement of the mouse such that it won't move at all or moves very slowly
then jumps. I highlight a file and focus jumps to the top left of the
screen rather than on the file I highlighted. If I open an email in
Outlook, focus remains on the Outlook inbox rather than on the opened
email. If I close and reopen ZoomText then all is well for a while but
eventually I start getting the same symptoms. I am also using Jaws 11 but
even if I close that, ZT still seems to freeze up or get behind or
whatever it is doing. Any ideas on how I can fix this? It has rendered
Windows 7 practically unusable for me as I sometimes have to close &
reopen ZT as frequently as every 10 minutes or so. Thanks.

Also, I tried sending this to the ZoomText email list but the address I
have apparently does not exist anymore. Is there still a ZoomText email
list? Thanks.

Sherry Wells

Hello Sherry,

First of all, are you running the LATEST version of ZoomText 9.1? They made some
enhancements around 9.18, I think, which made it "compatible" with Windows 7.
Prior to that, I was told, it was NOT compatible.  The upgrade from 9.1 to 9.18
is FREE and you should be able to run the product updater to upgrade.

The second thing you might try is uninstalling and re-installing ZoomText.  It
MAY be that ZoomText needs to be installed AFTER JAWS.  Sometimes there are
system files and by installing one product over another, you can install an
older version of a system file without knowing it.

Finally, I would try sending a note to support@....  This is their
main support help desk ID.

I hope that one of these helps.

Good luck!

Thank you,
Have a Great Day!

Also, I tried sending this to the ZoomText email list but the address I
have apparently does not exist anymore. Is there still a ZoomText email
list? Thanks.

Sherry Wells

Hi Janelle,

You may want to take a look at www.getwinzoom.com This is a much simpler
program to run.

Thank you

I use zoomtext 9.1 with vista and have developed a problem. That mouse
pointer shape for text boxes, is it called a carrot? is now always black,
even with inverted color filtering turned on. Since I use high contrast
white display setting with color filtering turned on, my pointer disappears
into the black background. The regular mouse pointer, the hand and so on all
reverse color as expected but not the text pointer. I've reset zoomtext
to default. where else should I love to solve this problem?

thanks, /greg

I have had the same problem with Flash and Zoomtext, at startup. My solution is
to go directly to the Adobe Flash download page, then save and execute the
installation file. That works fine for me even with ZT running.

Subject: [magnifiers] Adobe(R) Flash Player against ZoomText

Johnny :)

Hello, JC,

Thank you very much for your suggestion from what you did and it worked for
you. Great idea... I will go to Flash Player's web link and download the
latest update soon.

Johnny :)

This week Dolphin announced the release of Supernova 12.04.
In the press release they claimed to be the first to support True Font
smooth magnification in Internet Exploer 9.

In Internet Exploer 9 Microsoft uses a new technology Direct2D, which is
unknown to current professional screen magnifiers like the latest release of
ZoomText.

In my article I analyze Microsoft's accessibility strategy and compare it
with Apple.
Apple includes accessibility in its IOS operating system. This operating
system is used in the iPod, Ipod touch, iPad and iPhone. All these products
are accessible for the visuaally impaired, without the need to buy an
expensive screen reader or magnifier.

Hi,
I use the current version of Zoom Text. I've tried to use a Google shared doc
with no success. When I try, it slows down my computer to a crawl and after a
bit, a message comes up telling me scripts are trying to run and asks me if I
want to continue. i answer yes. Also, when I attempt to insert new text on the
shared doc, my pointer doesn't insert the keyed in information in the correct
place. I tried this on another computer which is also running Zoom Text and is
somewhat faster but certainly not new. The same things happen. Tech support at
Zoom Text says it's not their software that is causing this and that some other
program is trying to run scripts.

It's interesting to note that I'm having some of the same issues while on
Facebook. It slows down when I try to complete one of those informal surveys
such as check the boxes of the national parks you've been to. There is also
ghosting when I key in info into a status box.

Anyone else having these issues? if so, have you identified any solutions?
What scripts could it be referring to? I'm beginning to think this all has to
do with the fact that both FB and shared docs are in real time.

BTW, awhile ago, I wrote about using Adobe Connect with Zoom Text. I found that
you can use it with the chat box but forget about trying to view the docs that
are posted up for all to see. I asked the meeting hosts to send them to me in
advance and that works better. When I hosted, I chose not to share any docs
<smile> so that wasn't an issue.

Thanks for any info you can share and stay cool.

Are there still any screen magnification software programs out there that will
run with Windows 95. Yes, thats right, I said Windows 95. I have a client who
wants to hang on to her old computer but needs some screen magnification.

I have some old versons of zoomtext, I don't know what the licensing issues
are with that as I've upgraded to new versions. If you can get good
answers to the impact on my license perhaps there's a solution there.

Hi all,

I am new on Windows 7 and am having lots of trouble getting ZoomText to
work well. I contacted AI Squared and changed settings per their
instructions. This has helped a little but I still have things lock up
frequently, especially ITunes, and have to close & reopen ZoomText. I
thought Windows 7 came with a built in magnifier but can't find it. Can
someone tell me how to use it and if it is worth bothering with. I use
Jaws as well as ZoomText and am not a power user of ZoomText. I'd be
happy if I could just have an enlarged screen with no hassles. Thanks.

Regards,
Sherry Wells

Hi.
I stopped using ZoomText when i began using Windows 7.
Reason: The built-in magnifier.

To start the magnifier, press Start and type in Magnifier.

If you are using one of the glass-themes, you will also be able to use the
full screen magnifier.
This has been an issue for many users, so please make sure you are using a
glass-theme.

In the settings, you can enable the magnifier to follow the mouse pointer,
as well as the carret in MS Word.

Shortcut keys:

Enable / zoom in: Win+Num Plus
Zoom out: Win+Num Minus.
Disable (but not turn of): Win+Esc.

When the magnifier is active, you will see a transparent magnification
glass. Point on that and a tool-bar will appear. Minimize that in order to
hide the magnifying glass.

If you consider your self as a non-poweruser, you will have no need of
ZoomText any more.

Feel Free to ask If I might be of any more assistance.

  /Ilias
