Oops, I hadn't thought of that when I added that feature with the
descriptive line. I've taken note of this and will fix it in the next update...

Yes, it was.

Seems the keystroke is captured by the input control. I'll see if this can
be fixed in the next update...

Jack,

Thanks! I'm glad you liked them. I put them together for some other Fookes
products, and just seem to keep going.

Eric,

Glad to help. It is the least I can do to help others decide to buy other
Fookes software. It helps me in the long run when you can make a living
giving me the great software I can't seem to do without.

I'm pretty sure this is a dumb question,
but here ggoes anyway.

Background: I use Mozilla 1.3 (not that that matters)

I have TONS and I mean TONS of filed email in
Mozilla files, somethinmg like 45K messages,
and in my environment there are a lot of attachments
and they are often significant size PowerPoints.

I know how to have Mailbag Assst open all my local
files. It takes a lkong time while it grinds through
45,000 messages in about 20 or so files (or folders if
that's what they are called).

Unfoirtunately, when everything has been read in
I can do a few things such as statistics, but then
when I try to save this huge file I get a "Invalid range"
message.

So I have promised these GREAT people at Fookes that
I'll try a binary search and see if it can handle
half as many, then 3/4s... you know the drill.
(There's also a theory that mybe one of my Mozilla
mail files is corrupted).

So today I thought I'd try. I opened one
maile file, it went ok. But how do I then
merge in a second file? It seems like
i can either "open all" or open one at a time,
and once I have opend one I( think I have to save it.

maybe I am just CONFUSED...

anyway, I badly wwant to solve this problem,
because MB looks like one KILLER utility.

a file with the file extension .mbg is the Mailbag archive file. Howto append
or add onto a .mbg
One way that I know of is, first of all, to save that one that you opened. Save
it, let Mailbag save it as a .mbg
which is a mailbag archive file. And, also to mention, assign a meaningful name
to that file is a part of that
process for me.

After that, right click of mouse in Mailbag's main grid (look at which of the
tabs you are on ie "main grid") choose
close all.

Open a 2nd bag or file from your (Mozilla) source into Mailbag. Mbg menu file
> save as

Then browse to where you had saved your first one and choose that very same
first file that you had created.
ok it to save. Mbg prompts and you make choice to append (instead of to
overwrite your original file).

That merges the content of your 2nd opened into along with the content that's
already in your first saved
Mailbag archive file. And you can open a third and append to the same first
saved mbg archive file. and in that
manner, it not limited to only 3.

If you like, try it out with some of the sample mail files that are in the
samples folder underneath Mailbag's main
folder.

There may be other ways to do it beyond what I listed above.

Hi Al,

>Is there any timetable for MS Outlook support? Thanks.

MS Outlook support is available in E-mail Examiner, which is based on
Mailbag Assistant. This feature relies on some expensive third-party code
that is distributed by Paraben Corp.:

http://www.paraben-forensics.com/examiner.html

Due to the complexity of PST files (they are encoded by default), there are
currently no plans to add MS Outlook support to Mailbag Assistant.

Hi AL,

Here is all the information about Outlook and MailBag that I have.

>Is there any timetable for MS Outlook support? Thanks.

There is no direct support for MS Outlook at this time (except in
a special package mentioned below). We do not have MailBag
Assistant (MBA) scheduled to support MS Outlook.

Some people use MBA and Outlook by way of importing the Outlook
mailboxes into Outlook Express with good results.

The following is from the Introduction:
Mailbag Assistant requires Windows 9x/2000/NT4/Me/XP, and
supports Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape Messenger, Pegasus,
The Bat!, Forte Agent, Poco, Calypso, FoxMail, Juno 3.x, EML
message files, and Generic mailboxes (mbox, Berkeley mail format,
BSD mail format, Unix mail format). Access to the following mail
formats is possible by first importing them into Outlook Express:
Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Internet Mail,
and Microsoft Windows Messaging.

We hope to add a utility that will convert Outlook e-mail to Mailbag
archives (using MAPI). However, we currently can't make Mailbag
Outlook's .pst files directly because these are stored in encrypted
format by default.

We have a special version of Mailbag Assistant called E-mail
Examiner that handles MS Outlook mail. Unfortunately, the code that
processes .PST files belongs to Paraben Corp. We do not have a
license to distribute it with our software under the Fookes
Software banner. If you're interested in E-mail Examiner, you'll
find all the details below. It is quite expensive.

http://www.paraben-forensics.com/examiner.html

Thank you for your interest. You might want to take a look at some
of our other products, both shareware and freeware located at:
http://www.fookes.com/products.htm

Happy Bag'n!

Sorry I took so long to answer you. Runbox and Ukonline both allow 15 meg
attachments, as does AOL. UKonline is free but runbox and AOL are not.
Runbox is wonderful. I've had it for over a year now and never have any
trouble - okay, maybe once :)). They are quite reasonable and their
mailboxes start at 100 megs. Hope this helps.

Julie,
What ISP allows attachments of 7 MB? I cannot send files larger than 4.5
MB with the two Email ISPs that I use.

Eric,

Here are updated Mailbag shortcuts in the style that Larry Thomas did for
EZImager.

I have not had the time to verify my changes to the file in all cases. It
should however, be nearly 100% correct.

If anyone spots a problem, please let me know.

Mailbag Shortcuts by Larry Hamilton 4/27/2003; Updated 5/5/2003.

I have listed each keystroke by menu. If more than one key combination
activates the same feature, I list them separated by a forward slash "/". I
indented the various "levels" of each menu.

The function keys are grouped after all of the menu items. Many of them do
not have a function tied to them, unless they are dependent on a particular
tab being in focus.

Hi!

I have not found any option to view and sort by recipient.
Is there any switch to toggle between sender and recipient?
Does Maibag offer any other possibilties to sort by recipient?

Regards,
Bernhard Goebl

Hi All !

I'am a new user of mailbag assistant registered.

A problem:

File -> Export E-Mails as -> EML Files -> Select default folder
-> Ok:

Message: "cannot create file c:\Program Files\Mailbag Assistant\
Mailboxes\ (and now the whole body of the message appears, several
lines...).eml

This always happens, with any number of selected messages.

Thanks in advance,

Felix

In outbound messages you can sort by recipient and you're
supposed to be *the* sender; in inbound messages you can sort by
sender and you're supposed to be *the* recipient (no sense to sort by
recipient in this case ;-) ). If you are managing mail from different
users I guess you should create different mailboxes for each of them
(or ask Eric to include a new column in list views ... :) ).

I believe that mailbag assistant gives error when the subject is too
long.

Hi Felix,

Can you please make a mailbox with a few of the messages that you
get errors with and attach the mailbox and its mate (table of
contents, index or whatever your eMail program calls it) to a
message sent to Support@... please? Thanks, and let me
know what eMail program you are using to open the messages from.

Hello mailbag subscribers,

I am currently looking in to archiving my e-mail. I searched the The
Bat! (my e-mail client) Archive and found

some helpful information such as the use of Mailbag Assistant -
which I will use (I also love Notepad Pro).

But now for implementation. My goal is to archive old mail so that
The Bat! is not clogged up with so many

messages, making searches and closing down faster. So what I want
to do it to make an archive of old mail

visible to Mailbag Assistant, but no longer in The Bat!'s
mailboxes. I would also like to preserve the

structure of my e-mail folders to some extent if possible.

A couple problems I need to solve:

When I simply start Mailbag Assistant and view directly my TB
mailboxes, and view them by mailbox name

(View/mailbox name) the program merges inboxes, outboxes, etc. What
it is doing apparently, is to merge mail

into groups based on the last directory name in their path - so
one account such as slug/inbox and another

account news/inbox - which actually contain mail sent to different
e-mail addresses - is grouped together. I

would like to avoid this. I also can't seem to view and 'TO'
information except in the message itself and this

makes it particularly difficult to look through all my accounts in an
organized way.

I thought about the options to move mail into UNIX mailboxes
and then to append to these boxes with a

filter/rule. Then I could run another filter to delete these messages.
Intriguing! Could I create several UNIX

mailboxes similarly organized like my TB setup and then view them
all in Mailbag assistant? I really have no

clue what a UNIX mailbox is other than I did use UNIX in graduate
school in 1987-1990 to send e-mail and had

an account - so I probably had one. So I need help with these
concepts and how to implement them.

Hi,

Is this a bug, or something on my system?

Search > Quick Match > Address (Ctrl+Alt-A)

hangs MBA with the search dialog window half-drawn.

The other Quick Match options work fine.

MBA 3.2/rvm

Martin.

Works OK here. MBA 3.5/rvm on Win2K Pro SP3. Try to upgrade to

It seems you can't (directly). One workaround is to save your
mailboxes in mbg format with a different name (that's what I do) or
you can ask Eric to add a new feature in next release ;-).

What you see is a "Who" column that "contains the name of the
sender for incoming messages (From or ReplyTo field), and the receiver
name for outgoing messages (To field)".

Is Mailbag Assistant going to be a help with Outlook?
