I will check it out, right now I am testing the same using an old vcr recording
from last year of mallincam views.
It is an old tape, but there is very little lag so far.
I am here.

I used Tikilive to broadcast and save these video slides.
Should give an idea of the picture quality. Some of from Hubble and some are
frame captures from my Mallincam. I hope the link works.

Thanks Rock,

We're just bringing up the MC and had a little glitch with the USB adapter,
but I spoke with Jack last night and all is well now. It's a very nice
product.

Hi Howard,

Your red led camera is fully upgradable to the standard of the MC VSS. When the
MallinCam Hyper PLUS Color were switched from green to red led, the electronics
were in part also upgraded to new standards. There are several additions to your
camera that has to be implemented to make it into a VSS. The only thing is you
will remain with the same color external case your camera has.

If too many upgrades comes in at the same time, production of the cameras will
be reduced by half or more. People are already on a waiting list to get a new
MallinCam and I do not want to have a longer manufacturing waiting list. I take
upgrades as time allows us to so. Each individual upgrades is maintain to the
highest quality. Don't want to rush any manufacturing or upgrades to affect
final quality.

I have received several inquiries for upgrades and they all have been booked
till at least January. It takes time to do a good precision job where the camera
will function to it fullest and best performance ever for a long time to come.

features such as DARKEN image mode where it will be possible to increase signal
to noise ratio by a large amount. This mean we can now run the MCHP a near full
gain and yet maintain a clear darker image without the excessive white
background. The video stabilizer offers excellent features for live situation or
imaging situation. You can also now convert your MallinCan Color camera into a
monochrome without the loss of sensitivity. To read more about it here's the

No thanks needed. It's what we all do and enjoy and that's what counts. Just
keep making a great camera.

Howard,

The VSS has been covered on the list before. Here's some key features:

1- New Third Generation Hyper Circuit
2- New Variable shutter from 3.3 secs to 56 seconds
3- New X 2 feature controlled via RS 232 which will give the new VSS exposure
time of about 2 minutes
4- New Computerized TEC which allows a user to control the TEC via RS232 and
select noise detection for the Peltier cooler
5- Camera is ready for wired remote control unit which is in the works at the
moment
6- New color external case and logo
7- New preamp section at the ccd sensor level with slightly more gain
8- New rear mounted RED led for TEC noise detection cicuit indicator
9- New rear mounted Yellow LED indicator for the refresh rate count
10- Can be controlled via RS 232.
11- More info at: http://mallincam. tripod.com/ id49.html

available soon. It is a Digital Video Enhancer (DVE). It allows background noise
reduction without affecting the main image. It also has a whole bunch of
features such as DARKEN image mode where it will be possible to increase signal
to noise ratio by a large amount.

I just checked out EyePartner, TikiLive and BlinkoTV as Rock suggested... and
WOW WOW WOW!! This looks like the best quality video ever!!! And I'd tune into
Tiki just for the peppy music!!!

Jim has done us a great service by finding these... especially since EyePartner
is a software developer capable, with Rock's input, of producing the interface
with the features we need.

Jim, all,

Thank you for the support. I strongly believe and suported astronomy education.
Now days, many people don't want to get up and go to a side walk astronomy
session like we do here in Ottawa and look through an eyepiece. If they do, and
look into an eyepiece, a lot of reactions is... "Oh, that's all what it is, that
little fuzz ball??". Nothing more raise my hair at the back of my neck when I
hear this at sidewalk sessions. To be honest, I don't blame them.

Now technology is here. Next step is reach them via internet! Better than
ever, in color, live, with a live discussion chat room about observation of
celestial object. John Dobson went to the people on the street and show them the
universe. That's because they did not have internet back then. People went for
walks during evenings back then. Now, watch out! Internet is here. People are on
the internet in greater numbers than ever.

Having a private site would benefit many. We could have a planned public
observation night where anyone can join in. Also we could have a tech night
among advanced observers with password protected sessions. The possibilities and
endless.

It take a lot of time and organization to design a suite that will give us most
of what we want and need.

Right now, for the price, the eyepartner.com thing is the best avenue, thank to
Jim Turner who has found this and pass the info to me.

Jim, Thank you! You've been great help.

  Rock M.

Ease of use

speed was pretty good

ability for multiple users to have there own live audio/video embedded on the
broadcasting page simultaneously

simple setup

free

etc...

It really was a good system...not without issues...but the best i've seen so
far...and the quality of the image was pretty good...it is a real pitty...

My two cents...

That's great news, Rock...

I agree that a private site that we share by subscription is probably the way to
go. But I think its just as important to work with a software developer that can
write a 'player' that can give us the features and controls we want... and
particularly one that is optimized to work well with your camera.

I'll check out the sites you have listed.

Dave,

Your ideas are great, thank you for sharing with the group. Jim Turner has
found a site called Blinkotv.com which they offer at a very reasonable rate

At the moment, Tikilive.com has a lot of what you suggested.

Check out the following

Some of these guys even offer HD quality at full 30 frames per seconds.

They have all the answer for us. I'll keep the group posted.

11- More info at: http://mallincam.tripod.com/id49.html

features such as DARKEN image mode where it will be possible to increase signal
to noise ratio by a large amount. This mean we can now run the MCHP a near full
gain and yet maintain a clear darker image without the excessive white
background. The video stabilizer offers excellent features for live situation or

monochrome without the loss of sensitivity. To read more about it here's the

I'm not a regular broadcaster, but I am a regular viewer and a MallinCam
enthusiast. Like everybody else, I have been frustrated since the demise of
SparkCast and would love to find a site that meets our collective needs.

It has occurred to me that no one (at least, as far as I know) has attempted to
identify the features and capabilities that we, as a group, really want and
need. I think it might be a good idea for us to 'brainstorm' and come up with a
checklist of these things. If we have some collective idea of what the ideal
site would offer, we might be able to share these ideas with site hosts and
developers... and who knows? Maybe some of these features could be added to one
of the sites we are trying out. Anyway, if WE don't have a concrete idea about
what we want and need, we surely can't expect some site to magically come up
with them out of thin air!

Anyway... here is a list of some things that have occurred to me:

* Sufficient bandwidth for real-time streaming video (How much bandwidth is
sufficient?)

* Sufficient space on the server for recorded broadcasts and stills(How much
disk space, on average, is sufficient per user?)

* Text chat (Most sites offer it anyway.)

* Audio broadcast capability as well as video (Some in our group normally run an
'open mike' which I personally like... some don't.)

* Two-way audio (As far as I know, NO site offers this. But it would be nice if
all of us watching a broadcast could chat, conference-call style...)

* A SparkCast-like window that displays all current astro-video broadcasters...
easy to see who is currently broadcasting... easy to click to join in.

* A robust suite of controls that allow a broadcaster to 'tweak' his outgoing
video; and that allow a viewer to 'tweak' the incoming video as well. This was
one of Sparky's strengths, in my opinion.

* Utilities for video capture and frame capture.

* Responsive technical support with a phone number and/or e-Mail address. I

Hi Rick,

We just hire a new tech to give a hand in the shop and got more benches setup.
Once I get things going I will dedicate a bench just for upgrades. Still waiting
for a lot of components to arrives. Many distributors keep a low stock onpart
and components due to current economic times.

If you need a upgrade, send me a private e mail and I will work on it.

Keith,

I am at Chiefland Astronomy Village waiting for Ida to pass and thn for the
skies to clear later in the week.

With the software and cable you will be able to control all camera menu
functions.  You will not be able to change exposure times.  The new VSS will
allow for limited exposure control via a computer - HYPER OFF (2.1 second mode -
HYPER ON - what ever the control knob is set to - HYPER Times 2 or twice what
the control knob is set to.

Jack et al,

I recently ordered a MHP control cable from zengineering. I expect it to arrive
this week.

I have paged the file sections and done about every search I can think of on the
group.
Am I correctly assmuming M Control allows for at least limited remote control of
the on screen display?
Is there a recommmended install procedure?
What is the MallinCam_Control.msi file for?

I need to be remote when doing long integrations.

PS I have not had a clear night since last writing to try changin gamma setting
against M33. We now have the fringe of a hurricane bearing down but I am hoping
this weekend looks good.

Hi all

I have posted this question on the DSI forum but no response (yet)

Can someone tell me the way it works when capturing planets or the moon with DSI
software.........I know I must capture in AVI but for how long? and when the
capturing is finished how do I select the good frames from the thousands of
frames in the video?......or do I simply align and stack with Deep Sky Stacker
and this pulls out all the best images ready for post processing

sorry to be a pain
