Dear All
Just a quick note to let you know about the successful survey
undertaken by the Field Nats Club of Vic fauna Survey Group recently at
Churchill NP, near Dandenong in Melbourne's SE suburbs. The survey took
place over the weekend of the 16-18th of Feb.
We had surveyed areas of the Park, last year only recording 2 Little
Forest Bats ( Vespedalus vulturnus). We surveyed a different location
with 45 elliotts and 10 cage traps on the Friday night with no luck.
The Saturday night we added 4 harp traps, near 2 dams in the Park. On
the Sunday morning we had 1 Swamp Rat (Rattus lutreolus) and after a
quite warm night, many bag fulls of bats. After 6 of us spending an
hour and a half processing all of them, we finished up with 150 bats of
4 species - Gould's Wattled-Bat ( Chalinolobus gouldii), Chocolate
Wattled-Bat ( C. morio), Lesser Long-eared Bat (Nyctophilus geoffroyi)
and Little Forest Bat.
Off to the Grampians over the upcoming long weekend during surveys
again. Hopefully we may get Smoky Mouse, Potoroos etc...
Yours in all things "green"
