We've got a new feature for testing: TrackBack for news items oriented
Manila sites. If you're comfortable running beta software, please help
us test the new feature.
*** How to test:
1. Update Frontier.root.
2. Download and import the following file using the Open command in
Frontier's File menu, clicking OK to all confirmation dialogs:
http://jake.userland.com/gems/trackbackForManila04.fttb
3. In the table that opens, there's a script named install -- run the
script.
4. In the Frontier Admin Site, open the Settings -> Manila ->
Preferences page. Check the box to enable TrackBack, and click Submit.
5. Open your news items site, and go to the TrackBack Prefs page --
click Prefs in the Editors Only menu, and then click the TrackBack link.
6. Click Yes next to the first two questions -- Do you want TrackBack
enabled, and Do you want to send TrackBack pings automatically -- then
click the Submit button at the bottom of the page.
7. Go to your site's News Items Prefs page, and add the following macro
to your News Item Template, where you want the TrackBack link to appear:
{trackbackLink}
8. Post a new news item with a link to another news item in your site,
or with a link to another site which supports TrackBack. The link can
be either the URL for the news item, or an HTML link in the description
of your news item. Don't forget to post the news item to your home page.
Manila will send a TrackBack ping to the post/site your news item links
to. Check the TrackBacks for that post, to verify that it worked.
9. Create a post that links to your news items site -- You can link to
your news items site from another news item in the same site, or from
another site which supports TrackBack.
When Manila receives the ping, it will record it with the news item you
linked to, and display information about the ping when you click the
TrackBack link next to the news item on your home page. Note that you
may need to refresh your site's home page for the TrackBack counter to
reflect the ping.
10. Send an email to the manila-dev list with a link to your site, to
let us know that it worked -- or if it didn't work, let us know what
you did, and what happened.
Thanks!
