Beta: DG and Department RSS feeds   Message List
Reply Message #688 of 1656 |
We've got a new set of features for testing: RSS feeds for Manila
discussion groups, and for news item departments. This beta also
includes a new department list page.

*** How to test

1. Download the following file and import it using the Open command in
Frontier's File menu:

http://jake.userland.com/gems/manilaDeptEditorAndRss01.fttb

2. In the window that opens, there's a script named install. Run the
script.

3. Verify that your discussion group RSS feed is working. Your
discussion group's RSS feed is the URL of your discussion group plus
rss.xml. For example if your discussion group is at
http://www.mysite.com/discuss/, then your discussion group's RSS feed
will be here:

http://www.mysite.com/discuss/rss.xml

4. Send a message to the mail list, letting us know that the RSS feed
for your discussion group worked.

*** Department list and department RSS feeds

This beta also includes a new page which lists all departments in a
site. If your site's URL is http://www.mysite.com/ then your department
list will be here:

htp://www.mysite.com/newsItems/departments/

If you're logged in as a managing editor, then you can use this page to
create new departments, or to edit existing ones.

The departments page also has links to pages for each department, and
includes XML buttons which link to each department's individual RSS
feed.

*** Feedback

If you have any questions or bugs to report, please post a response to
this message.

Thanks!
-Jake
