Hi,
Sorry for the delay. Was travelling (in NE India!)

I really cannot comment on the accuracy of GPS maps of S. India. One of the
better forums to ask on would be, for eg.
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/street-travel-experiences/
S. India seems to be better publicly mapped than my neck of woods.

Garmin has recently started advertising on its own in India. But
garmin.co.in takes you to their Singapore site.

I dont know who is supplying the India maps, Garmin, or one of their
distributors. In other countries, I believe, Garmin gives you a way of
generating a license for non SD card machines. The 276 seems to be quite
popular in S. Africa. Check out that site.

For travelling along highways in S. India, I don't think you really need a
GPS. And I am saying this as one of the early adopters of GPS here! As a
record of your trips, it would ofcourse be great. If you do log your
travels, could I request you to please keep "lock on road" off, log at the
highest density you can manage within memory limits, and upload your tracks
to some public, not for profit site like openstreetmaps.

Hope your sons procedure goes well.

Regards
Sutripta

hi guys,
Thanx for the reply Sutripta. I will be flying down to Madras
(Chennai) during the first week of July and drive down to Vellore (I'll be
there for a surgery on my kid at CMC) and then later drive down to Kottayam,
Kerela (coz my son will have to be transported in a sleeping position.) In
between I will be going a couple of times to Madras. All this I intend to
drive except for my flight into Madras from Dubai. I might even drive down
to relatives in Bangalore. So most of my travellin will be concentrated to
the South. Basically I need a map that atleast gives the highways correctly
as the ones in wikimapia or google earth. Yes, I dont mind if major cities
like Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum is also available.
I had written to Mapmyindia, they replied that they dont have any
product right now which is compatible with Garmin 276C. Anyways should I
write to them to find out if their maps are locked on the sd card they
provide?

Thanks for the reply.

Regards
Joseph.
