Since I get several questions HOW TO DO that - finally I decide to
give you short and easy tutorial.
Still I am not sure - this solution is legal - therefore do what I
wrote do on your own responsibility......
What you need is - official MetroGuide on your computer...
1. Using MapSource select as many maps as you like - or you plan to
use on your GPS
2. Connect your GPS / SD reader to PC
3. Open windows Explorer - 2 windows
- in firts window go to directory:
Documents and Settings/USERNAME/Local Settings/Temp/MapSource
(you may need to change options in Explorer to show hidden
files/directories to find this particular directory)
USERNAME is your user name in Windows
- in second window open your directory where you will store your
files used during map preparation
4. Now the tricky thing starts - Start in MapSource uploading of
maps - it always start with building indexes - you will see that
during this process a new MDR file is created in temp/MapSource
directory - you need to wait up to the moment when building of the
MDR file is finished - then another 'tmp' file is created. When this
TMP file starts to be created -
COPY MDR FILE to your directory (to the second Explorer window)
5. While you will copy this MDR file - MapSource will probably start
to upload maps to GPS / SD - interrupt this process when you will
finish copying of above MDR file - as you don't need to upload maps
now.
6. Now you have MDR file which contains all the indexes you will
need - start now sendmap20 latest version (3.1 at least) - and drop
MDR file on it - YOU WILL NOT SEE MDR FILE IN THE WINDOW - but Approx
size of the map will not be 0 anymore
7. Drag and drop all the IMG files you want to upload - the same you
selected in MapSource (it doesnt have to be exactly the same set -
but indexes will work only to the IMG files you selected in MapSource)
8. Now upload all using sendmap20 to your GPS and - voila - now you
will have routing + global indexes
9. Send me a postcard if you like sendmap20 :)
