I don't know if you received this letter in your regular email or not so I thought I would attempt to reach you this way. Also, anyone from Pgh. area interested in getting something going as far as local meetings or projects go, please send me an email with your ideas. lenpierce@...

Kevin,
It was good to hear from you. I thought you may have lost my
address. I am still interested in being the Pittsburgh area contact. I
would like to know exactly what it is that I will have to do and how
many members I will be contacting. I will try to do a good job for PA
and the Society. On March 1 at your meeting I presented a packet of info
to Dr. Zubrin about a closed loop water recycling system that they are
in desperate need of at the research stations. The problem is that the
thing costs $25,000 and he informed me that the society didn't have the
cash to buy it. Since then, I have given a lot of thought to the problem
and came up with a plan. I contacted the Utah dept. of water
conservation to see if they might be willing to pay for the system in
exchange for empirical data that we would collect on the system and
maybe TMS doing a promo with them about water conservation. ( the TV
exposure would help us too!) They emailed me back and wanted
to set up a
meeting in Salt Lake City, so I emailed Dr. Zubrin explaining my plan
and passed along all the info. He wrote back and thanked me for the lead
and said he would follow up on it. Kevin, this is an example of the kind
of ideas I like to work on - solutions to basic technical problems.
Sometimes I can identify the problem on my own (as above) and come up
with a solution but I feel it is better to identify the problems through
a group discussion - or present a problem, discuss possible solutions.
Anyhow, get back to me soon - We have a planet to colonize! Len
PS I really enjoyed your meeting and the presentation- You guys are
doing a great job out there!
