Mentor a women scientist from the Mideast:

AIPT (www.aipt.org) Association for International Practical Training
has agreed to become a subcontractor to Amideast (www.amideast.org)
in responding to a request for proposals from the Education and
Cultural Affairs Bureau of the U.S. Department of State to provide a
mentorship program for women in science and technology from the
Middle East. The program will consist of an orientation in
Washington at the start of the program, an eight-week mentorship in
a private commercial research and development lab in any high tech
industry, and a seminar in the Middle East after the program that
reinforces the mentorship experience in the U.S., and creates a
wider network in those communities.
16-20 participants will be selected by Amideast's network offices
in Morocco, Yemen and the West Bank (with Oman as a back-up). These
women will be ages 22 to 35 years old, with "significant
expertise/knowledge of mathematics, science, technology and/or
innovative applications of these skills," and who have already shown
some promise of leadership. The grant will cover the cost of
housing and provide a stipend for the time spent in the U.S. Our
goal is to have a cluster of placements in a couple of cities in
order to provide participants with support from each other, and
Amideast and AIPT will provide an orientation in Washington at the
beginning of the program.
We are seeking contacts who would be interested in offering an
eight-week mentorship inside their company or laboratory. These
women mentors should be willing and able to share their experiences
of their careers, and offer insights into the future developments
and challenges in their particular area of science or technology.
One of the State Department's desired outcomes is to develop on-
going mutually-supportive and beneficial linkages between the
American and Middle Eastern scientists.
After this, mentors will be recruited to travel to Morocco, Yemen
and the West Bank for approximately one week to work with returning
participants to offer a seminar or workshop that allows the lessons
learned during the U.S. mentorship to be spread across those
communities.
The program should commence some time in the September or October
2008. Contact me now for more information
