You'll also be given the opportunity to start building your own personal network right then and there!

April 1—July 15: Surveys open for enrollment
July 16—August 15: Mentoring Committee reviews surveys and assigns circles
August 16—September 5: Mentoring Circles are informed that they have matched a circle
Week of September 8, 2008: Mentoring Circle Orientation for all participants
Date to be set soon. This meeting is mandatory for participants
Sept, 2008—April, 2009: Circles meet as often as they can/want (at least 1X month)
April 2009—Wrap up event and celebration for all participants

MassBioEd and the
WHAT: An Educational Offering entitled, "Biotechnology Project Management"
This educational program is designed to provide a practical hands-on environment in which to learn the responsibilities, activities, and competencies required for the Project Management position in the Biotechnology environment. This course utilizes experiential teaching techniques, class participation, and real life examples to maximize learning. This course also helps executives, researchers, technicians, and managers in understanding the role of the project manager in the product development arena.
WHO: Candidates must possess at least a BS/BA, and can be working in a clinical research setting, within industry or academia, exploring the course for a career change into clinical research, or looking to understand the clinical research process in relation to other jobs in the biopharmaceutical industry.
WHEN: Wednesday Evenings, May 28 through June 25, 2008, 5:30 to 9:00pm
(The next offering of this course will not take place until September 2008.)

2008 WEST Leadership Awards Celebration

DESCRIPTION: An evening celebration overlooking Boston Harbor with refreshments, time for networking, an awards presentation, and awardees sharing their success stories. The honorees have demonstrated notable entrepreneurial leadership in science and technology by starting their own companies, or achieving success within larger organizations.
2008 Award Recipients:
--Abbie Celniker, PhD, Global Head of the Program Office for the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR). Abbie has been entrepreneurial throughout her career, and has shown an outstanding commitment to helping other women reach their full potential.
--Irene Greif, PhD, Director, Collaborative User Experience,
--Ivana Magovcevic-Liebisch, PhD, JD, Executive Vice President of Administration and General Counsel at Dyax Corporation. Ivana has successfully leveraged rigorous training in biomedical science and law to become a corporate leader and dealmaker for an innovative biotech company.
--ML Mackey, CEO and Co-Founder of Beacon Interactive Systems. ML has built a company in the "man's world" of government contracting, and earned the respect of those in private and government circles.

SCFG's mission is to increase the self-confidence and science literacy of K–12th grade girls belonging to groups that are underrepresented in the sciences, through free, after school programs that provide experiential learning, mentorship, and leadership opportunities. Girls work with mentor-scientists who model and foster leadership, affirm college as an expectation, and promote careers in science and technology as goals and options.
