*Nominate someone you know as a "Massachusetts Unsung Heroine"!!!
The Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women is planning a great event at the State House
in Boston on March 3, 2006 to announce and honor the Unsung Heroine selected to represent each of
the Commonwealth's 351 communities. This event is a prelude to the Commission's 3rd Annual Unsung
Heroines Luncheon to be held on March 22, 2006.
Nominations must be received on or before January 19, 2006. Nomination forms may be downloaded from the Commission website, www. mass.gov/women--NOMINATE A SPECIAL WOMAN IN YOUR COMMUNITY!!!
Massachusetts women have always been in the forefront of advancing the status of women. They have come from rural and urban backgrounds, different social classes, and different races. They have worked together. Diversity was the strength of the women who struggled for 72 years to be included in the Constitution. They united under a symbol: the yellow rose. The yellow rose stood for unity, friendship and determination. The yellow rose continues to remind us that our own work to improve the status of women in the Commonwealth continues requiring that same diversity, unity and determination. Today thousands of women from every community in our Commonwealth perform unheralded acts on a daily basis that make our neighborhoods, our cities and our towns better places to
live . They are the Unsung Heroines who use their time, their talent, their spirit and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others. They are mentors, they are volunteers, they are innovators, they are the glue that keeps a community together, they are the spark that gets things started and gets things done...they care about other people and it shows. They don't make the news, they make the difference!
