AWIS BOOK CLUB EVENT
Come and join us for this event where we will discuss "The door in the Dream" by Dr. Elga Wasserman. Whether you had the chance to come to her inspiring lecture last fall or not, this is a perfect opportunity to take a deeper look into her interviews with members from the Academy of Sciences. Come and share with us which one is your favorite interview, what has surprised you about them or what you have found inspiring.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN SCIENTISTS
The AWIS board often receives requests for volunteer support at all types
of K-12 and other educational events. Consider giving some of your
time to volunteer and be a role model for the next generation--that is
the heart of the AWIS mission!
LeAnn Williams (lwilliams@...) will be helping to coordinate
requests with our chapter membership. Please peruse the opportunities
and consider doing at least one this year! Here's a first event looking
for support--Contact LeAnn for more information.
The TEC Summer
Science Institute is looking for 3 to 4 presenters on Wednesday, July 12
at Dover Sherborn High School to present to 35-40 Massachusetts science
teachers. The teachers are interested in hearing about current topics and
cutting edge research. Some topics of interest include (but are not
limited to): oncology, cardio vascular, diabetes, aging, stem cell, and
bird flu. If you would prefer, the group is open to taking a field
trip to meet you on-site.
Below is a brief description of the event and what is scheduled thus far:
The Summer Science Institute for middle and
high school science teachers is designed to provide a content rich professional
development experience. Teachers from our fifteen member collaborative
look forward to this experience each year as a means to be kept abreast
of current, cutting edge happenings in science. Participants are
all scientists by training who just happen to be teachers. Included in
our program this year is Ken Miller, author of Finding Darwin's God, Ed
Fox, Systemic Response to Herbivory, Dr. Mark Kirshner author of Plausibility
of Life: Darwin’s Dilemma, Peter Alden of the Thoreau Institute and a
presentation by the Museum of Science focusing on evolution.
