AWIS partners with Science Club for Girls--JOIN US!!!
Our AWIS chapter will be helping to run a SCIENCE CLUB FOR GIRLS at the King school in Cambridge this year.  Adult volunteers (US!!) will work with high school girls to lead the 6-7 graders in some fun, planned science experiments in two 8 week sessions.  All materials and information will be provided, no experience necessary!  It is so important for these girls to see YOU women scientists as role models.  This is sure to be a very fun, rewarding experience so contact us now to participate.

What: Information meeting for volunteers
When: September 21st, Thursday 6 pm
Where: Congregation Eitz Chayim (library, towards the back of the building)
      136 Magazine Street
      Cambridge, MA 02139
Public Transportation: If you're taking the T, it's about a 12 minute walk from
Central  Square down Magazine Street. From the Longwood Medical Area, you can
take bus #47 and get off at  the corner of Putnam Ave and Brookline Street.
Driving:
From Memorial Drive, Magazine Street is the first right you can take  past the
BU bridge roundabout, going towards Harvard Square.  I would  suggest parking
in the lot where Micro Center and Trader Joe's are on  the intersection of
Magazine and Memorial Drive, since on street  parking is limited to residents.
Eitz Chayim is a couple of blocks up.

Briefly, the time commitment for each volunteer will be 2 hours/week over the course of an 8 week time. There are 4 science clubs; 2 per semester and you can choose to volunteer for either semester. The clubs will run possibly on Fridays at 4pm. We need at least two people per club but we are hoping to assign three-four people for each club in case one person is not able to attend for vacation/conference/work/health reasons.
The science projects have already been worked out by the Science Club for Girls organization and they will be training the volunteers before the semester starts in October. This will only take two meetings at a convenient time and location.  If you are unable to make the first meeting, please let me know about your preferences; whether you would like to volunteer for fall or spring, how many hours you can attend, etc. Please feel free to bring other volunteers or post this email to groups/individuals that might be interested.
