SPECIAL AWIS EVENT on June 5th--National
Book Award Nominee Allegra Goodman--REGISTER TODAY
Allegra Goodman will read from her novel "Intuition" (Just out
in paperback--get your copy now!) researched at the Whitehead Institute
in Cambridge. If you attend one AWIS event this year--make this the one!
This very realistic lab drama is about "an anxious, ambitious,
down-on-his-luck postdoctoral researcher suddenly obtains results that
look too good to be true — the virus he's injected into cancer-riddled
mice appears to be melting away their tumors — and his girlfriend, another
postdoc in the same lab, comes to suspect he's fudged his results. But
she doesn't know for sure: there's no hard evidence, just some sloppy,
discarded lab notes that seem to suggest it." (NYT Book Review)

Extraordinary Women Engineers Project is looking for young women engineers
The video team for a WGBH educational initiative called the Extraordinary
Women Engineers Project is looking for young women engineers as potential
subjects for video profiles on a Web site we are developing with the National
Academy of Engineering. We're specifically looking for biomedical
engineers in the Boston area and wondered if you might have any leads on
potential candidates. Because we're looking for someone who will inspire
high school girls, we'd prefer candidates that are just starting out in
their career.
We're specifically looking for:
--women under 35
--with just a BS in biomedical engineering (we prefer someone without
an advanced degree)
--working in the biomedical industry (rather than at a university)
If you know of anyone or would like more information, please contact:
