I called Dennis Kimambo +254 722 388 275 in Nakuru, Kennedy Owino +254
723 568 251 in Nairobi, and also Achami +254 720 613 379 in Kuresoi and
Collins +254 721 637 457 who I think is currently in Nakuru. I sent $808
which includes the $750 that I received Janet Feldman. She emphasized
that we should make sure our leaders' needs are being met.

Our priorities now are:
* I told Dennis Kimambo to get a new phone, a good one, to replace the
one which he lost yesterday. Currently, he's using his brother's.
Dennis's phone number hasn't changed (we can call it as before) and he
didn't lose any phone credits.
* Make sure that Samwel Kongere +254 725 600 439 receives the medical
attention he needs, he is sick with a massive headache.
* Check with Dennis, Ken, Tom Ochuka +254 725 678 641 in Kisumu, Sam,
Wesley Chirchir +254 722 992 107 in Eldoret, Douglas Arege +254 720 466
340 in Kisii, Jacob Ogweno +254 726 095 945 (of Mina Academy) in Mbita
and others in our network.
* Focus on Achami and Collins/CharlesKillel embracing the Kalenjin
fighters in Kuresoi and send out phone credits for food because they are
ravaging the farms. Consider supporting "open kitchens" for shared meals.
* Encourage Kenyans helping Kenyans in this way, perhaps by paying for a
newspaper advertisement with a list of names and phone numbers in
Kuresoi and other areas to call and send phone credits to. We should get
the backing of some well known organization or person to make that credible.

Achami is in Kuresoi http://www.worknets.org/wiki.cgi?Kuresoi He is in a
camp area with families. The security level is low. He can't travel to
town without police escort. Houses are still being burned down. He says
the phone credits are extremely helpful:
* To talk to their brothers, to our friends on the other side, among the
Kalenjins
* To talk to police agents to tell them the problems and the need for
reenforcements
* To help members who they don't know where they are
* To communicate with the Red Cross
I also explained that phone credits can be traded for food, medicine and
transport. The Kalenjin fighters are ravaging farms, apparently they are
short of food. Achami will use phone credits to buy food and he can get
transport from the police, I think. Achami's deepest value is "See
people living coharmoniously" and he's interested in environmental
issues, but we can't have an environment if people are in conflict with
each other.

Collins plans to go to Kuresoi. He leads youth activity around the
Nakuro district, he cares about AIDS and peace, and he organizes
football tournaments. He agreed with the need to get food to the
Kalenjins in Kuresoi.

I asked Achami and Collins to get a list of names and phone numbers that
might be posted publicly, and they will do that. They agreed along with
Dennis that we can share those lists with flyers in Kiswahili or perhaps
a newspaper article to encourage SMS messages for peace and also the
sharing of phone credits. A majority priority now is to encourage
Kenyans helping Kenyans as Alice is.

Overall, the situation in most of Kenya is more normal. I ask Dennis and
all to keep thinking, what would we do with an extra $1,000? We have
very effective operations and so long as there is an urgent need for our
help I will seek larger funds, but then I need to explain why, as with
the need to buy food for the Kalenjin fighters.

I will myself slow down a bit and catch up on sleep! I hope that we all
get rest. And here are the latest reports. Thank you for making calls
and providing encouragement:

Grace Soi: Andrius, Thank God the situation has cooled abit, though with
lots of biterness in between the communities here in Kericho.I have
contacted part of the people in Kuresoi,my Dad inclusive and things are
cooling down.Agape Home has done its best by playing no partician roll
and has continued to serve all the communities by providing food and
transportation. Lets keep up,Dennis,Kilel and all the associates

Collins/CharlesKillel:

It is ray of hope in Kuresoi as families can reach out their loved ones
through the air time I have been sending to Victor Achami, the air time
has been serving three camps by uniting the internally displaced with
their families and relatives. Though movement is restricted because the
area is still volatile the people have been able to communicate to their
relatives and informing them of the situation on the ground. One can
only move with heavy security from the local Administration Police who
are also very few in number. By today in the morning there as been heavy
fighting between the fighters and the local administration as the
fighters have resolved to harvesting peoples farms. The harvesting is
done day and night.
By yesterday one person was killed in the area and what as remained for
the fighters is scaring people in the camps, harvesting peoples farms
and looting houses in Kuresoi. The only new development is that the
Kalenjin can not access Molo Town to buy food staff. Plans are still
under way to reach more fighters.
The air time was a blessing because it has reduced fear and increased
hope, With the airtime the Provincial Administration through the DO
Keringet is reachable something which was initially impossible because
of lack of airtime “it is a stitch in time” because communication to the
Red Cross and other humanitarian organization has also been made
possible. With the Provincial Administration, the National Council of
Churches of Kenya Nakuru and other Humanitarian Organization within
reach hope is on the way.

Janet Feldman sent $750 and wrote: Dear Andrius, I have thought that
some of this would go to Dennis, Ken, Tom, Sam, Wesley, Douglas, Mina. I
did ask Dennis abt his personal ability to keep afloat during this time,
and if he needed personal funds. He seemed reluctant to say, but I want
to make sure our POP leaders are themselves taken care of, so FYI re
distribution of this money.

A Focus is being made on having a wireless internet connection for the
community to help them have a place for information handling and
transfer. There is motive of taking risks to help the community Develop.
