First of all, a dedicated server takes less resources than if you would
run a listenserver (server from within cs).
second a dedicated CS server only is 12MB in size within steam.

The only difference between a HLDS and HL listenserver configuration is
you need to call the adminmod.cfg (the line in server.cfg) from inside
listenserver.cfg and all should run fine.
The CS 1.6 client does not have a listenserver.cfg in it's cstrike by
default, so copy the server.cfg and rename it.
I copied a working config from a HLDS config to my counterstrike client
folders in steam and renamed the server.cfg to listenserver.cfg

That's all.

You can also try to get help on the adminmod forums as there are more
ppl over there that probably had your problem.

I've noticed a significant increase in cpu usage. upwards of 20% in
some cases. The reason im posting here is i've heard that the cuase
seems to be metamod on linux servers. Has anyone else noticed this?
if so any work arounds ?

I have recently downloaded it since i know it is an amazing piece of
kit, and unquestionally an extremely neccesary tool. However, i found
thet a could not get it to work. I have a cs crack, which is without
half life, which i made because i could put it on a cd and not have
to innstall it all again if i lost it. It is v1.4 and as soon as i
start up a lan game(i have set it up for that purpose), it crashes.
I am sure i installed it correctly, and i have tripple checked all
the settings, even without all extra mods attached, it wont work.
Do i need a newer version of cs, or is it because it is cracked??? (i
have the latest update of metamod). Plz help.

If your CS is 1.4, I assume you installed this because you wanted to put
up a cracked LAN version in windows right? Because you don't want to run
the Steam version for some reason right? and the LAN2internet patch for
CS 1.5 is only there for Linux right?(I know because i had a good
swds.dll-crack for Windows for 1.4)

I would suggest to try installing an older version of metamod, but i
don't know wich "newest" version of the older releases supports 1.4.
If you do not intend to run a CS version with a crack for the open
internet (You just want to LAN) i would suggest to install CS 1.5 and
run the HLDS in unsecured LAN mode.

Thanks for the tip. Although the actual reason for me not using
steam is because i have no idea what it does, and since it is HUGE,
i cannot download it because i only have a 24kb modem. What does
steam do??? (and if you know any working key codes for cs i will
gladly accept because i have lost the code for my non cracked
version of cs, which is currently not installed)

I think it's better to advise you to rent some (a)DSL connection and
download the complete Steam and CS 1.6 pack.
And if your region doesn't offer any fast-bandwidth capabilities:MOVE!

Or you can always ask somebody with a fast-bandwidth connection to put
it on CD for you.

Steam just gives you an ID to use for their half-life mods, you don't
need a key anymore per seperate HL-mod, one key for all (or the one you
subscribe to in the future) Valve has planned to use steam as their
service system for delivering single-player or multiplayer games on
monthly / yearly fee basis.
That is for the future and which games will be under the steam-system
for that purpose i yet don't know exactly, but count upon Half-Life 2 as
one of the first online-subscription payed services.
You pay and you can download the game through their steam-system. Once
your subscription is due you will have to pay again for probably
extended multiplayer service use or downloads of game- updates.

I have a problem compiling under FreeBSD the problem is that I am
mostly a windows person and have no clue as to how to compile metamod
under *nix. I jest need a little nudge in the right direction.

yes, just create the plugins.ini and put your entry in there (
/path/to/hlds/$mod/addons/metamod/plugins.ini )

effort to search the archives.

Yesterday we got our first AMD 64 server up and running and i happily went
about installing counter strike and metamod. However metamod is giving me odd
trouble.

If i run the server using the hlds_amd, hlds_i686 binaries etc, everything is
fine. However if i try to run the server using the hlds_amd64 binary the
following error pops up:

LoadLibrary failed on ./cstrike/addons/metamod/dlls/metamod_amd64.so: ./
cstrike/addons/metamod/dlls/metamod_amd64.so: cannot open shared object file:
No such file or directory
Host_Error: Couldn't get DLL API from ./cstrike/addons/metamod/dlls/
metamod_amd64.so!
L 11/04/2003 - 14:27:02: FATAL ERROR (shutting down): Host_Error: Couldn't get
DLL API from ./cstrike/addons/metamod/dlls/metamod_amd64.so!

FATAL ERROR (shutting down): Host_Error: Couldn't get DLL API from ./cstrike/
addons/metamod/dlls/metamod_amd64.so!

Ive tried renaming metamod_i386.so, symlinking it aswell as making it look for
metamod.so instead (and yes, ive triple checked file permissions), it still
refuses to run when using the amd64 binary.

Im not sure if this is indeed a problem with metamod itself or if its
something related to the hlds_amd64 binary.
Any help and pointers would be most welcome.

Yours Sincerely

Actually, I'm not sure if this is because of metamod or podbot, but I have
a dedicated server setup with adminmod, metamod, statsme, and podbot. The
server is running under linux emulation under OpenBSD. I noticed, while I
was playing fy_poolnight, my server kept crashing. I opened up an ssh
session, and checked my screen for the half-life dedicated server and I see
this...

This was the last thing it saids. Then, I can't enter anymore commands so I
was forced to kill it. However, it only seems to occur with weapon_mp5. Not
sure if it's because of metamod or because of PODbot. Any help would be
appreciated =]

Is this CS 1.6?
Might have to do with the new naming-convention used in CS 1.6
PodBot is not created / updated for CS 1.6.
It might also be a problem of the entity in the map (fy_poolnight) where
weapon stock is pick-up ready.
Dunno, maybe if you remove the mp5 from the map it might start normally...

I am not using CS 1.6, I am using CS 1.5. That's why I don't think
it's the new naming convention. Also, the bots work fine in
fy_iceworld, where weapon stock is also pick-up ready. I'll try your
advice about removing mp5 though. Still, I don't know if this is the
reason why my server will lock up...

Thanx

I have that problem when I try to compile metamod and use the new

get the following:

I'm afraid I don't really have any experience with compiling for amd64 to
add anything insightful.

For what it's worth, here is an AMD64 binary of Metamod plus an
AMD64 version of Admin Mod. The DSOs are working but the Admin Mod
scripts aren't loading yet, so it's not fully operational. Let me
know what your findings are when you test it.

That metamod_amd64.so worked. I will have more information on how it

ACtually just compiling it in 64bit mode after making some adjustments
to have it load the right game dlls.

What plugin do you use with it?

I did sucessfully compile it in 64 bit mode but I think the linking
of the other game libs did not work correctly. I will play with it
some more tongiht.

I don't run the server. A friend of mine asked me to look at this
since he knows I'm a unix admin (Solaris) and that I have done these
types of things before. From what I can tell, they run AMX, statsme,
and chickenmod.

So did you compile those in 64bit for him too? I would believe that the
plugin needs to be 64bit as well for Metamod to load it.

No I did not compile anything else. However, when I got the
previously mentioned metamod_amd64.so from the adminmod website, the
metamod shared object was the only lib that I replaced and
hlds_adm64 worked. Go figure.

Just for grins, I will also try to recompile all of the other
plugins. Whos knows what will happen when I do this.

Well, yes, no wonder. To load Metamod, the metamod.dll needs to be
64bit (or so I believe). To load the 64bit game dll for CS or
HLDM, the metamod dll needed to be given the correct name. (Could
be done with some magic, I guess, but I was too lazy, so this was
just a quick hack.) So with this metamod_amd64.so the server
should start.

The question is if it does load any plugins. Too bad I currently
cannot access any Opteron server to test.

Florian.

The hlds_amd64 server worked with the old 32 bit amxmod and statsme
and chicken mod. My problem previously was that I made a mistake in
the Makefile concerning linking the proper game libaries for
metamod. Once corrected, the server worked correctly.

I still have not rebuilt amx and the other mods. With luck this
should be done tonight. But its nice to know that they still run
withtout the rebuild into 64bit.

Not an entire new SDK, but they did recently announce some engine functions
to add to engine/eiface.h:

	 // Added 2003/11/10, per alfred@....
	 void *  (*pfnSequenceGet)  ( const char* fileName, const char* entryName );
	 void * (*pfnSequencePickSentence) ( const char* groupName, int pickMethod, int
*picked );
	 int  (*pfnGetFileSize)  ( char *filename );
	 unsigned int (*pfnGetApproxWavePlayLen) ( const char *filepath );
	 int  (*pfnIsCareerMatch)  ( void );
	 int  (*pfnGetLocalizedStringLength) ( const char *label );
	 void  (*pfnRegisterTutorMessageShown) ( int mid );
	 int  (*pfnGetTimesTutorMessageShown) ( int mid );
	 void  (*pfnProcessTutorMessageDecayBuffer) ( int *buffer, int bufferLength );
	 void  (*pfnConstructTutorMessageDecayBuffer) ( int *buffer, int bufferLength );
	 void  (*pfnResetTutorMessageDecayData) ( void );

I haven't yet had a chance to update the hlsdk file on the Metamod site.
