I am not a meterologist - just someone who is curious.

1) Why is it that a High pressure causes "clear and cold" in the
winter and "clear and hot" in the summer. To me it seems like
a "same cause - opposite result" situation. Is the High one
of the "results"? If so - what is it that causes the High?
I've always thought that Highs and Lows 'produced' the weather
conditions - perhaps because that is the way TV weather reports
tend to talk about them that way ("we've got a high coming in
tomorrow, gonna be clear and cold").
2) I have seen several places on the web that show the earth and
the current parts of it that are in light and shadow and all
the grades in between - a sort of view from space goodie.
Have you ever seen one that shows the same thing for the
tides? For weather? I'm interested in a global view, not
regional or continental.
