first circular

Wroclaw
and the 100th anniversary of the birth of prof. Aleksander Kosiba
The Department of Meteorology and Climatology
Institute of Geography University of Wroclaw
and
Polish Geophysical Society
under the honourable patronage of the
Marshall of the Voivod of Lower Silesia
will organise in Wroclaw an international conference entitled:
"MAN AND CLIMATE IN THE 20TH CENTURY"
Conference topics:
Changeability of climate in the 20th century
Climate of natural and human impacted ecosystems
Social consequences of climate change
Changes in measurements and analysis techniques
Long term climatic data series
Contemporary global warming is a fact. It is also well known that human activity
is having an increasing impact on the natural environment. According to WMO and
ICCP reports the last decade of the 20th century represents the warmest since
instrumental observations began and probably also during the last millenium. The
observed warming is accompanied by changes in other climatic parameters and
related socio-economic transformations.
Until now there has been a lack of common opinion as to the rate of contemporary
climate change and concerning both its causes and results. The opinion that
human activity causes not only local but also regional and global climate
change has become widespread nowadays.
We think that the turn of the millenia is an appropriate time to attempt to
summarise the results of studies and research programmes undertaken to date.
With this in mind we have decided to organise the conference "Man and climate in
20th century".
