Hi all

Most of you will already be aware of the following seminars (in which case
please excuse this double-posting). For you others, if you can make it,
these seminars carry the personal recommendation of your President, so
please make the effort to attend. IPCC2007 will be THE climate report of
the year, and will bring the whole planet up to the same speed on this
matter.

KEY IPCC FINDINGS ON CLIMATE CHANGE - MEETINGS IN WGTN Two
presentations are being organised in Wellington on Wednesday 7
February to announce the key findings of the first instalment of the
IPCC's (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) major report on
climate change.

The previous assessment was in 2001. The forthcoming assessment
involved
2500+ scientific expert reviewers, 800+ contributing authors, 450+
lead
authors, from 130+ countries. It will be released in stages, with
three working group reports (2 February, 6 April, 4 May) and then a
synthesis report (November).

The working groups are:
1. Science;
2. Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability (including a specific
chapter on Australia & New Zealand); 3. Mitigation (including chapters
on forestry & agriculture).

Chair of the Royal Society's Climate Cttee, Dr David Wratt, who is an
IPCC Bureau Member, goes to Paris next week for the finalisation and
approval of the summary for policy makers of the Working Group 1
report, and the announcement of this momentous report on 2 February.

Venue: Victoria University Rutherford House, Rutherford Lecture
Theatre 1, ground floor, Bunny St entrance, Wednesday 7 February.

12.00 pm to 1.30 pm A presentation aimed at the science community and
those directly involved in the issue. Chair: Ralph Chapman (Victoria
University);
Presenters: David Wratt, Jim Renwick, Peter Barrett, Dave Lowe.

5.00 pm to 6.30 pm A presentation for the general public. Chair:
Jonathan Boston. Presenters: David Wratt, Lionel Carter, Ralph
Chapman.
