From my research this is a tiny segment of information that ive
gathered (and both are direct quotes from Jim on various forums)...
"I replaced the DC converter diodes with fast recovery rectifiers.
This increased the polarization voltage to the capsule from 42 to 53
volts."
"The solution is to use a decent transistor with very fast, 1 amp
rectifier diodes.
I've been able to raise polarization voltages from 40 to 57 volts by
the swap of these components.
Mic sensitivity increases around 6 db while the use of the lower noise
parts also lowers amplifier noise for a net gain in S/N ratio."
However, if you notice, in the first quote Jim mentions just the
rectifiers, but in the second he adds the transistor (and the voltage
has changed).. in other posts he has mentioned the tantalum
capacitors, resistors, etc. only thing i dont remember him mentioning
is the inductors. BUT, the one thing I've gathered from my research is
that Jim has made sure not to release everything in one place, and my
feeling is that there is still some that he keeps to himself. He has
been doing these mods forever and I would assume that some of what is
done has changed over time.. but as Jim (ZAP) said.. he is not
familiar with his mods and shouldn't comment on them and neither am
I.. I only pass along some information that a few google and forum
searches would provide. I, unfortunately can add no additional
knowledge to the situation. HOWEVER, if you know something I don't
about the theory behind the above stated I would be all ears!
Thanks,
Tom
