Mihai, I think the others have explained how to calculate the pressure drop in pipes with different flow rates. One thing you maybe did not understand is that...
Dear all, I work on a small scale hydropower project in northern Laos (2400kW). A small dam is diverting water into a dessander, then into a 1,2km pipe...
I thought I had checked the PSI for the 4" PVC and it was OK. The area where the penstock will be is heavily shaded but I will paint the exposed pipe. The...
Thanks Peter, I'm getting a lot of feedback advising against the 4" pipe in favor of 2". Is there no advantage in the larger pipe? 2" would certainly be easier...

I think it's ok for you to use PVC pipes as long as you make sure that its thickness is schedule-40 or higher. I'm a bit biased against PVC pipes because thick...

Hello All, I am a new member, but I have enjoyed reading your group for a while now. I have a question. Has anyone explored the use of boat propellers as ...
Hello Martin, Boat propellers can not be used as axial flew turbine runners because the blade tips are rounded and so don't fit well inside the turbine tube,...
Dear all, I am also interrested in the blade profile. Since we, in Suriname (South America) , have low to very low heads, "propellor type" of turbine seems to...

Boat propellors definately do work in micro hydro. If you machine the rounded tips off a bit , they are even better. Add some pre swirl vanes, or a scroll case...

Hi, I've tried using a boat propeller on one of our axial turbines (15kW, 3m gross head) and it worked. What I did is: first I computed for the ideal blade...
Hello everyone, I am new to this so please forgive me if I ask redundant or stupid questions. I have the basic 12 volt photovoltaic system pretty much...
I am glad you think the jackrabbit is nice looking. I know a couple of owners who were disappointed by it. The manufacturer is optimistic in the output curves....
Do you have any more details about schemes where a boat propeller was used or modified for use for a low-head turbine? I am currently working on a project to...

It would be nice to have a spread sheet you could plug in head and such and come up with speed....any chance you have something like that from when you made...
This sounds like an interesting project. For a range of head (say up to 10m) and flow conditions in the 0-5 kW power range, what would be the corresponding...
Hi Eilrem, Have you determined your turbine's efficiency yet? Also, how did you compute the ideal tip speed ratio? I have material that computes diameter,...
The existing turbine has a rotor diameter of 300mm for a speed approx. 800 rpm, H=4m and Flow=150-180 l/s. Which should produce about 4kW-5kW, without...
