Hi Tarcisio,

Just to let you know that Creative Labs does have a Notebook version of the Soundblaster Card.
It sells for $89 US and here is the URL for it:

Ron

-------------- Original message from "Tarcisio Goes" <tcgoes@...>: --------------

Hi everyone,

My name is Tarcisio and I joined this group to share experiences/files and
to help and be helped with midi/sequencing issues. And I also have several
midi files that I will be glad to share with members.

I'd like to ask/discuss a question about midi. I am a professional musician
and I use two laptop computers running midi files while I play the guitar,
my wife plays percussion and we both sing.

The problem is that we have been using Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth and
Roland VSC as midi devices for Cakewalk, but although their are halfway
decent, I think they leave too much to be desired in terms of sound quality
and reality of sounds.

I have heard sound fonts, but it seems like they only work with a Creative
Soundlabs card and laptops don't have those.

I tried Sonar 7.0 with virtual modules such as Hypersonic, HyperCanvas and
Cakewalk TTS, but they don't run so smoothly and require a lot of machine
power. Also, I found an small improvement from using this setup.

I also know I could use an external USB sound module (hardware), but as I
use 2 laptops, I'd have to use (and buy) two, and I also want to keep my
setup as compact as possible.

So, I'm asking you guys: do you know or use other better options for Virtual
Midi Devices? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Tarcisio

Thanks Bob,

That should have been also recorded by Jim Croce in the early 70's and
included on many of his compilation albums including his 1992 album:
The 50th Anniversary Collection (1992)

Glad someone is watching over me [LOL]

He died in a plane crash in Sept. 1973, age 30

Using one laptop wouln't allow us both to read our own lyrics on the screen comfortably. Also our repertoire consists of 1500 songs (750 each) and a  list of 1500 songs for both to se ar  ch from would be harder. And also, she likes her songs alphabetically while I like mine in sets by music type such as : fast, slow, rock, jazz, etc.

It would be very awkward for us to use a single unit, because we  perform  more  like  '2 independent artists backing each other' than a plain duo. It is not easy to explain, but just for the sake of clarity, we don't work as Simon & Garfunkel, but more like, suppose Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand  do gig together and they take turns singing their own tunes,  and while one os singing, the other does back up vocals, etc.

But the merger box is a great suggestion.  Thank you!

Ok I See, but there are sequencer progs out there that will allow you to choose the next song whilst the current is playing, mine is controllable via a midi footswitch too.

If you want to stay with the dual computer setup Id be inclined to buy 2 1 channel USB/Midi interfaces (look on Ebay theres thousands of them for about $20 each) , feed these into a 2x1 midi merger box and route the output of this to feed a decent sound expander module.

Since joining the group I've never felt that we have to much mail. Isn't it
the purpose of group to field questions and answers for others with the same
interests as each of us have. I get far more a-mail from friends forwarding
what I consider worthless things, Keep those emails and midis coming. I
think some of you are in in the wrong group. Bob Barnes

Cat,

Thank you very much for that comment & reminder.

I also I want to remind everyone about the separate G-Mail account I
recently set up.

URL TO GET TO G-MAIL: http://www.google.com/ [CLICK ON Gmail In The
Menu]
When G-mail comes up on your screen.
LOG IN: midkarmp3
PW: midkar_mp3
Address: midkarmp3@...

This site can also be used to send large files such as MP3 files for the
group which we hope will not be sent to our regular MIDKAR Yahoo group.

It can also be used to send MIDI files that are questionable and
forbidden in our regular MIDKAR group. (See Rules)

I hope to soon start archiving the MIDI POSTS, not discussion posts to
that address so members can go back and pickup a MIDI that they may not
have gotten if they chose to go to NO MAIL, or DAILY DIGEST.
I think it's going to be a "This Winter" project.

Please, Please!
This G-Mail account was set up for ONLY members of MIDKAR!!!
Do not use it to send a MP3 to a friend THAT IS NOT a member of MIDKAR!

Thanks,
Jack

I for one think that the mail situation is fine. Sometimes I get
mail from other groups as well. If I don't get to read it all in one
day then I'll catch up the next day or so. I think the group has
great participation, and that is what makes the group successful.

Thanks Bob,

That should have been also recorded by Jim Croce in the early 70's and
included on many of his compilation albums including his 1992 album:
The 50th Anniversary Collection (1992)

Glad someone is watching over me [LOL]

He died in a plane crash in Sept. 1973, age 30

Frank,
You are 100% right. He worked with Spike Jones & The City Slickers a
lot and after they split up (following is an excerpt from AMG)

After three very successful years with the organization, Ingle left in
November of 1946 over a salary dispute with Jones. He freelanced in
radio and movie work for a while, making unexpected -- but well-received
-- appearances with the Los Angeles and San Francisco Light Opera
companies. Cutting a cornball spoof of the then-current hit "Temptation"
with Jo Stafford for the fledgling Capitol label started the second
career of Red Ingle. "Tim-Tay-Shun" went on to sell over three-million
singles, and basking in the unexpected glow of success, Ingle
immediately formed a regular band to cash in. Working under the moniker
of Red Ingle and His Natural Seven, the group included Country Washburne
(the man who had arranged "Tim-Tay-Shun") and Luther Roundtree as well
as several other former City Slickers. The hits kept coming with Ingle
scoring big with "Cigareetes, Whuskey, and Wild, Wild Women," "Them Durn
Fool Things," and " 'A', You're a Dopey Gal." During this flurry of
activity, Ingle and the band took time to film several numbers for
Snader Transcriptions, an early forerunner of today's music videos.

Tarcisio,

Gary Wachtel is a member of this group and sequences great Big Band
tunes.
Don't know if he is watching the group closely but if he is he might
contact you.
http://www.garyw0001.com/index.html

Josef Huber from Sweden has sequenced a bunch.
http://www.josefhuber.com/
Click on Midi-music when you go to the page.

Ted Keener has sequenced quite a few also:
http://www.midistudio.com/Studios/TedK/index.htm

Ted's site is hosted by Les Gorven and you will also find a couple of
other sequencers on the site that have sequenced Big Band.

Hope this helps a little.

Jack

Frank,
You are 100% right.

I also remember this being recorded on a 78 by a person name of Red
Ingle ( I think
that was his name) In the 40's It was a comedy song! Does any body else
remember? He also recorded Nature Boy named Serutan Yob Also a comedy
track
