MILKY WAY VOYAGE
in association with Science Popularisation Association of Communicators and Educators, (SPACE).
The first national star party in India being organised for Amateur Astronomers, Amateur Telescope Makers, Planetarium & Observatory outreach, Telescope Vendors.
This group facilitates exchange of ideas between participants and organisers. Those considering joining up the Milky Way Voyage can inquire about the activities planned and the facilities that will be provided at the Telescope Grounds at ARIES, Manora Peak. A lot of information has been placed on the website www.milkywayvoyage.org for your perusal.
Milky Way Voyage is a Star Party, and not a amateur astronomers' convention. Emphasis has been placed that the participants enjoy the legendary clear skies of Manora Peak. All activities are planned with a view that participants would like to observe and interact more starting from the astronomical twilight at dusk to the end of astronomical twilight at dawn.
We are planning to place the largest amateur telescopes that are present in India, at the telescope grounds for the participants to enjoy the deep sky through these.
We are also planning to create a suitable environment for astrophotographers to have two memorable nights to photograph the night skies. You can use your equipment ranging from a simple tripod-camera-cable release to a piggybacked refractor-DSLR-Laptop-automated software or a SCT working at f/50 with a webcamera for Saturn, Jupiter and Mars.
An absolutely new list 'Milky Way Voyage' has be specially created for the event. It contains 135 beautiful objects, all within the river in sky. Of course March is a perfect time and Manora peak a perfect place to run the annual Messier Marathon. Looks like March 8th is a little early for the early morning difficult M30, but I daresay that it should be easy with a clear eastern horizon in the morning, even if the twilight breaks in.
