I've been told that the plant is not native to the watershed and

It looks like purple loosestrife. It was brought here with settlers. It is considered an invasive weed. It is known to choke out other native plants....

Does Mill Creek Park have a program to control/eliminate invasive plants? If they don't have one, they should start one. ... It looks like purple loosestrife....

Yes, they will take over and eventually take over in a big way, take over cattails,etc. I am not sure what anyone can do. Friends in Canada have been fighting...
