Hi, thank you for starting this group, I am in Michigan and I am just
beginning to research my mother's family.
The surnames for my grandparents are Katulski and Lutostanski.
I believe they came from Posen and Lomza. (sp)
We lived in Detroit when I was growing up and I remember my
grandmother taking me to the Christmas Party at the Polish Century
Club. (In Detroit on Outer Drive.)
My grandfather owned a furniture store on Harper when my mom & her
sister were little girls. My grandmother's family settled in the
Ziegler/Royalton Ill. area from what I remember.
I don't know if my grandfather's family lived anyplace other than
Hamtramck, MI.
Thanks again for starting this group,
Mary
Hi everyone I am new to the list and am trying to find out some information on my great grandparents Joseph Bolda bd. 1860 d. 1944, he married Susanna Sawitzka or Zywicki Nov 11, 1888 at St. Albertus Church in Detroit. On Susanna's headstone it has she was born in 1868 and died 1918. Her maiden name is a real puzzle to me, on the marriage license it has Sawitzka, father Albert Sawitzki on all other document it has Zywicki. I found them in the 1910 census living in Hamtramck, I cannot find them in 1900, the one that I found I do not think was my great grandparents because as far as I know there was no Anna and Rose wasn't born until 1901. Children of Joseph and Susanna were Joseph bd. 1889, Clara bd. 1891 Bertha (Measel) bd. 1892, Teresa bd. 1895, Harry bd. 1897, Tillie ( Roby) bd. 1899, Rose (Collier) bd 1901, twins Helen (Barnett) and Agnes (Sengstock, Wojick) born 1904. I was told there was a
John but I can not find any info on him.
Any help would be appreciate

Just thought I should pass on my knowledge to all you guys (and gals) on here. I
know just like heaps of other men I am pretty shy when it comes to going up to
someone. I've tried a few different places (clubs, bars, etc) but never seem to
have too much luck. Anyway, a few weeks ago I joined up to
http://www.theeasymeetingplace.info/uciz and I have to say I am already getting
excited. I was beginning to think I'd end up being alone for ever, but already
been talking to a few interested ladies on there. Anyway, if you're like me it
comes highly recommended!
I can not afford to subscribed to Ancestry but can someone please look up a name for me? I am looking for a Julius Sengstock born Nov 22, 1871 I think in Germany and died Sept. 23 1906 I think in Detroit, Michigan. He married Mary Potrykus born Feb. 5, 1867 and died Jan 28 1927.
I would appreciate any information.
Thank you

I have received a lot of help on searching my family and I really appreciate the very kind people that really work so hard in helping others. But I still am really confused with my family. Now I know why we turned out like we did. This what I know so far. My great grandfather Joseph Jacob Bolda born February 2, 1860 in Chlapau, West Prussia, parents were Joseph Bolda and Marianna Rathenau or Rathenau. Unknown brothers or sisters. He might of came to the US in 1885, still not sure. Married my great grandmother Susanna Sawitzka (name on marriage license) born 1868 (date on tombstone) don't know where she was born, father Albert Sawitzki (name on marriage license) mother unknown, also and brothers or sisters unknown. Joseph & Susanna were married in Detroit, Mich. at St. Albertus Catholic Church November 11, 1888.
I can not find them in the 1900 census, not sure because there were 3 other Joseph
Bolda's in the Detroit area by 1910. I did find them in the 1910 census which states there were 11 children born with 9 living. I can only find baptismal records for the 9 and Susanna's last name is spelled Zywicki on those records. What name do I search Sawitzka, or Zywicki? Either way I can not find any information on either name.
Family has it there was both a John and a Joseph, but the only baptismal record I can find is for a Joseph Bolda. There is both a John and Joseph (listed Josephine) in the 1910 census. I was told John died young from falling on a Pickett fence. There is a Teresa I was told died young, but found a wedding picture of Teresa and unknown named husband. Children I do know records are: Joseph Joannem b. 1889, Claram Cecilian b. 1891, Bertha b.1892 (Measel), Teresam b. 1895, Hieronimun (Harry) b.1897 died in prison, Teofiliam (Tillie) b. 1899 (Roby), Rosam
b. 1901 (Collier), Twins Helen (Barrett), Agnes (Sengstock, Wojcik) b. 1904.
Susanna was buried August 4, 1918 in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Joseph remarried a Rose Schmidt in May of 1921. Rose died in 1930. Joseph died April 13, 1944. Joseph, Susanna, Rose Schmidt Bolda and August Schmidt (Rose's first husband are all buried together in Mt. Olivet Cementy in Detroit.
Can anyone let me know where do I go from here. I have not been able to nothing on my great grandmother at all. I really apreciate any help, this is stressing me out.
Thanks
Pat

I received this from Michigan Archives and I thought I would pass it a long to let others know what information is on naturalization forms pre 1906.
Archives <Archives@...> wrote:
The federal government standardized the naturalization forms in 1906. Before that year courts could buy any form they chose. The forms used by most courts in the State of Michigan had very little biographical information. There will occasionally be information on date or place of birth or port of arrival but not often. Parents names have never appeared on any naturalization form at any time (other than adopted children).

>>> Pat 3/9/2006 10:13 AM >>> I am hoping you can answer some questions about citizenship that took place in 1896. My great grandfather Joseph Jacob Bolda became a US citizen in Wayne County in 1896. What kind of information is on either the intent or the actual citizenship papers? Do they give any parents names or the place they were born?

I am hoping someone can answer this question for me, I wrote to the Detroit Archdiocese and they haven't answered. When Catholic people came over here and got married here in the church did they have to show their baptismal record? And if so would the church have a copy of this?
I appreciate any help with this.

Someone emailed me that they had a Marianna Rathenau in there family and I lost there address. Please if you are that person please get back to me. Or if anyone has any information on her please let me know. All I know on her is she was married to a Joseph Bolda and living in Chlapau, West Prussia in 1860 when my great grandfather was born.
This is really a brickwall for me, I can not find any information what so ever on my great grandmother Susanna Sawitzki born about 1868 maybe in Germany or Poland. Information taken from marriage license when she married my great grandfather Joseph J. Bolda 1888 in Detroit was her father's name was Albert and mother unknown. I have been told that she had a twin sister (name unknown) that died in 1915. Susanna died in Detroit and was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery August 4, 1918.
Please if anyone can help me with this one I would really appreciate it.
I am researching my maternal grandmother's family. Her name was
Frances Strycharz, born in Austria-Poland between 1886-1888. I have
very little information on her. On the Ellis Island website, I have
located a Franzska Strigcharz who boarded the ship "Phoenicia" in
Hamburg on March 17, 2002. Her last residence is listed as
"Wetor." Frances resided in West Rutland, VT, and then in Troy,NY.
She died in 1944. On the death certificate, herparents are listed as
Michael and Agnes Chipal Strycharz. Frances had a younger sister,
Louise (Ludmilla/Ludwiga?)who also emigrated and resided in Cohoes,
NY. There was a stepbrother, Jan, who we believe remained in Poland.
Any information on this surname would be greatly appreciated.

I need either where on the web I can go to find information on church records or where I can write for these records. Also is this in Germany or in Poland?
Go to genforum.com/poland and ask the members of the forum for the website for Latter Day Saints. I think it is familysearch.org but the people on the forum will know exactly what to type in so that you can arrive at the correct site. You can also post your question concerning Swarzewo, whether it is presently in Poland or Germany. They are very helpful. Good luck.

My great great grandmother was Marianna Rathenow who in 1857 married Joseph Bolda in Swarzeo area of West Prussia. Could anyone tell me where the surname Rathenow came from? I did a google search and found a city in Germany by that name. But I can not find information on that surname.
The surnames that I am really having problems with are Sawitzki, I guess American name Zywicki, Bolda, Bolde Boldo, Rathenau or Rathenow, Sengstock, Portrkus. I would appreciate any and all information on any of these surnames.

1940's and she has to come back to Turkey like these dates and he died
