1st Workshop on
Quality in Modeling
Co-located with
the ACM/IEEE 9th International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems
(formerly the UML series of conferences)
MoDELS 2006
Genova, Italy
Quality assessment and assurance constitute an important part of software engineering. The issues of software quality management are widely researched and approached from multiple perspectives and viewpoints. The introduction of a new paradigm in software development – namely Model Driven Development (MDD) and its variations (e.g., MDA [Model Driven Architecture], MDE [Model Driven Engineering], MBD [Model Based Development], MIC [Model Integrated Computing]) – raises new challenges in software quality management, and as such should be given a special attention. In particular, the issues of early quality assessment, based on models at a high abstraction level, and building (or customizing the existing) prediction models for software quality based on model metrics are of central importance for the software engineering community.
The goal of this workshop is to gather researchers and practitioners interested in the emerging issues of quality in the context of MDD. The workshop is intended to provide a premier forum for discussions related to software quality and MDD. The discussions are to be organized into sessions devoted to a set of topics.
Topics of interests include, but are not limited to:
· Assessment of quality
o Quality of models including styles ( e.g. architecture and architectural styles)
o Quality of modeling tools and frameworks
o Quality assessment of highly abstract models
o Quality prediction based on model metrics
o Consistency of/between models as a measure of quality
· Existing quality models and best practices
o Applicability of proven SE approaches and techniques to MDD
o Best practices and processes for quality management during development and evaluation
o Meaningfulness of quality attributes
· Software process, impact of MDD on software quality
o Quality driven software processes
o Quality of processes where models play the central role
· Verification
o Testing at early stages of development
o Testing of models in MDD
o Model execution and animation
o Verification and validation techniques (V&V)
· Experience reports and empirical studies of quality in the context of MDD
o Empirical methods in assessing quality
The workshop is built upon the experience and discussions during a series of consistency workshops held annually at the UML conferences and recently at the MDA-FA conference. The intention is to extend the scope of the workshop and contribute with common post-workshop proceedings with invited papers.
Duration and workshop format
The workshop will take the whole day and will be organized into two session before and after lunch.
At least one discussion session is planned as the workshop is planned to be the forum for discussion on the issues related to the topics presented above.
Paper submissions and publication
Submit manuscript in PDF using Springer LNCS style: http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html
The submitted papers should be no longer than 15 pages in length. Papers will undergo a thorough process of review by the program committee. The proceedings will be published as a technical report.
Papers should be submitted on-line through here.
It is planned that the authors of the best papers presented at the workshop will be invited to revise and submit extended versions of their papers for further publication.
