Both terms have been used interchangeably for a while. For instance, two papers from 1997 titled "Model-Driven Testing" (
www.model-based-testing.org/dna.pdf ) and "Model Based Testing" (
www.model-based-testing.org/sqw97.pdf) use the same approach and even the same tool. The main idea in each is using a formal model to generate test cases automatically.
