Description
Montezuma Photography is a free nature and wildlife photography e-club with emphasis on the species, habitats and landscapes found on the Montezuma Wetlands Complex in the northern Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Members can post photos, share photo techniques and successes, ask questions, and set up informal field trips.
The Montezuma Wetlands Complex includes the Montezuma Audubon Center (Audubon New York), Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service), Northern Montezuma Wildlife Management Area (N.Y.S. Department of Environmental Conservation), and Carncross Saltmarsh Preserve (The Nature Conservancy). Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever also are involved. (see "Links" in the left menu)
The Friends of Montezuma is a separate non-profit support and advocacy group that assists and promotes wildlife management, habitat restoration, conservation education, and public use within the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. Again, links to all of the above organizations can be found on the Links page by clicking "Links" on the menu at left. [In the past, when guest speakers have been available, the Friends have sponsored Saturday workshops which are free to Friends' members. This may start again; we'll let you know.]
Unofficially, this Yahoo group could be called the Montezuma Photography Club. Rather than having regular meetings, we try to get together once a month for walks or mini-workshops. The location is the Montezuma Audubon Center (Rt. 89 north of Savannah, NY). Weather permitting, we go outside to demonstrate photo techniques or just wander and shoot. Mini-workshops usually include an indoor presentation such as a digital slide show.
For people specifically interested in birds and bird photography, consider also joining Montezuma Birding at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/montezumabirding/ and the Montezuma Birding Trail at http://montezumabirding.webs.com

Re: Visit to Montezuma Wildlife Refuge
