With the inspiration, creativity and help of Anthropology
students from several European countries we organized
this symposium to get connected by presenting our works,
exchanging our hopes, fears, visions, dreams and ideas.
While the whole world is confronted by rapid changes,
increasing social inequality, war and huge movements of
people, an ever increasing number of students choose Social
and Cultural Anthropology as their field of interest.
Through our anthropological knowledge and practice we
acquire attitudes like mutual comprehension, empathy and
sensibility. From this starting point we can develop our own
anthropological skills to unmask and fight the way in which
recent forms of social polarisation and cultural determinism
disrupt individuals and societies.
By combining our efforts and sharing our experiences we
can explore common perspectives and create the
basis for our own professional future in this world.
Let’s just as a first step connect Europe and transcend
borders in order to release our discipline from its isolation
inside the academic ivory tower by introducing Social and
Cultural Anthropology to a broader public and into our everyday
lives.
