Dear members of the Moving Anthropology Social Network,
I am a student from the Aalborg University in Denmark. As part of my internship for Expeditions, Research in Applied Anthropology, I am writing a research paper about academic online communities.
Expeditions is developing a global online community for anthropologists, students of anthropology and others interested in anthropology to network, communicate, share information, publish research, etc. The aim is to provide a community that conforms to the expectations of its members and serves the needs that members have in such a community.
For the purpose of this project, I am interested in identifying the concerns/expectations Expeditions must consider to attract prospective members to join and remain as participants in forming this particular global online community.
Therefore, I am approaching you with this e-mail to request for your help.
As members of an online network dedicated to anthropology, I believe that your input would be of great value for this research paper. Thus, I would appreciate it if you could take a few minutes of your time to answer the attached questionnaire.
I will treat all responses with confidence. Your identity will remain anonymous and cannot be connected to the published paper.
Please send the completed questionnaire via e-mail to: haapaso@hum.aau.dk no later than 23 December 2006.
In case you would like to receive a report of the survey findings or a copy of the research paper (available for circulation in March 2007), please indicate it in your message when returning the questionnaire.

I'm a graduate student in anthropology at American University in Washington D.C. I stumbled across your website and am intrigued. I have a few questions and would be grateful to anyone who can answer them.
1. What activities does MASN engage in? 2. How did it start? What was the process? 3. On another note, I am interested in anthropology as practiced in Europe or maybe per country. Information about dominant topics and ideas in anthropology in your country would be wonderful. 4. Is there an interest in public anthropology in Europe? What are examples of public anthropology in action? 5. How successful has MASN been in creating a student network?
I apologize for so many questions. Thank you for your time!
If anyone has questions for me, feel free to ask.
best, Kanhong

Usually European Conference support is taking place at a quite large and long term level and within networks of diferent partners. You need to establish a legal association to apply (or do it wihtin your university, for the conference there are also maybe fonds from the programms of leonardo da Vinci or Socrates (googlen) for mobility,
(eventuell wenn ihr europaverbindend und interculturell macht könnte bei einem kulturcall auch
was drin sein link unter
Generally it is a bit dificult to get something for one single
conference, it is better to be part of a conference series. But I´m sure if you ask at the german ministry of science at your Bundesland, and Vilagges and aUniversities that you will get a lot of funding if you present the network and the former conferences. there is for sure there is a specific german institution that supports you with the eu applying, -financially and ideologically since it is and interest of the german goverment to receive funds for projects in germany (same in Poland and wherever)
If you need any proposal Vorlagen (in German) from the applications for money for the austrian conference we can send them to the responsible person, should just ask for it at masn@... (mailadress of the austrian masn).
Good Luck and all the best niko

The most urgent task I think is the mobilization of financial support for this

Looking forward to meet you next fall, Greetings, Emanuel Valentin

Dear MASN-people!
I am very pleased to start off on behalf of Polish MASN the informational exchange in regard to the our next Conference.
First of all I would like to send special thanks to the Croatian team for organizing the previous event, which was both, intellectually stimulating and fun! Congrats! Way to go!!!
CONFERENCE
Poles have finally come to the conclusion that it’s the high time we do something to move the anthropology forward, therefore I am pleased to announce that the 3rd MASN Conference will take place in Poland, between 18-22 April, 2007 in beautiful Malopolska region, close both to the Tatra mountains and the cultural heart of Poland – Krakow.
The working title of the conference - ‘Acting Upon Reality.’
TOPIC PROPOSALS
Taking into consideration all your suggestions from the Network meeting in Croatia, we created a list of most popular topic proposals for both papers and roundtable discussions. I
ordered the topics according to their popularity.
That would be
absolutely great if you would like to express your opinions, ideas regarding the suggested topics for the forthcoming conference. Please feel free to use both the yahoo group and the forum on the MASN Website. I started off a new corresponding post. We are waiting for your opinions, votes, etc. until 30th of November 2006.
Keep it moving!
Take care,
Aga

Dear
MASN-people!
I ordered the topics according to their popularity.

Hello to everyone. I have a little proposal to make and you all see what you`re gonna do with it. I was having my last lunch in Opatija with Clemens and we were discussing how to improve the cooperation within MASN
members. During our talk emerged an idea that seemed insignificant at the moment, but as time passes I can not shake it off. Anyway, we should visit each other on the individual basis as anthropologists. That means treating our visits as a field work. The visitor would follow her/his host all the time during her/his stay and research the cultural aspects that she/he comes upon. During that time the host would not act as an antropolgist but as a local guide, providing the visitor with informations needed for the research and connecting him with local people. Later on the visitor would have to write a report and put it on the web for all to see and comment upon it. I see several benefits that can come out of such a project: - we can get to know each other better and learn each other`s methods, which can be very useful for our possible future joint projects (and that should be the result of MASN existance) - we can
question our conduct as informers which can give us better insight in that very important aspect of every field work, so we could implement that knowledge on our later projects - we can get some material for the web site and maybe that can be the spark for collecting more material on other topics - we can have fun and gather some real scientific data at the same time, and that sounds just fine to me. I wold like to read your comments about the idea, wether you hate it or know how to improve it. But no matter what, if anyone feels like doing that kind of reserch, I`ll be very happy to be your informer. Just let me know when yo are coming so I can prepare everything for your comfortable stay in our beautiful country.
