I just figured I'd send a quick update.
Still no joy getting help from MOTU on the mrpseq issue. Of course the
"start clockworks first" workaround isnt a bad one so its not that much of
an issue, but it'd still be nice to fix.

oh that's right, give away the 2.0 feature set :-)
so anyway in 2.0, or whatever we're going to call it, MRP won't be
limited to note events any more. in fact any step can pretty much
have any kind of MIDI event associated with it. apart from sysex and
nrpn, that is.
just tonight i was triggering envelopes from aftertouch values, in
fact. who needs a multichannel midi/cv interface?
anyway i think that the 1000bpm and the graphic UI for the non-note
steps can probably wait. the version that's up there right now
probably still has the event copy-constructor problem (no
MRPEventStatus) and i still need to fix the rotate stuff so it
rotates status values, too.
i think we just need to do a release with what we've got, fairly soon.

i have seen some crashes lately, especially when i crank
the bpm up to 1000 :) probably need to be locking something.
i'll try to have a look soon. also, i'm sitting on changes
such as trackmute in the gui. i'd like to get support for
non-note steps too, but i still haven't quite figured out
how it should look.

Hi Jason,
Been using MRP with Evolver and SunSyn on 10.3.9/Dual 1GHz G4/1.5GigRAM.
Lots of fun but... it crashes easily if I am changing a value quickly with the
up/down arrow
keys. Seems more prone to this in sequences longer than 16 steps.
Is there a key stroke to move from modifying values in selected steps to
entering
commands in the terminal and back?
Really I am just playing around with it still, MRP and the new Evolver. I have
work due in a
month that they may get used on though.

hey guys,
welcome to the list. please let us know how you get on using MRP.
we're hoping to have a new version up very soon with some new goodies...

Hey there,
found MRP via the MatrixSynth blog. I have been messing around with the step seq
on my
new Evolver and once I get my room tidied up I'll hook up the SunSyn.
Having some fun so far...

I tried opening a ticket with MOTU. They werent exactly helpfull. There is
an MOTU person on the Analog Heaven offtopic list, I will try to enlist
their help.

hey tom,
i think we are going to need some help from either the community or
MOTU on this one.
i know of no other coremidi api calls i could make that would affect
this situation. i even tracked down doug wyatt at namm last year to
ask him, and he didn't have any ideas i could follow up on.
i did ask a question here before to find out whether anyone else had
non-working interfaces, but didn't get any responses. i conclude that
either the timepiece is the only non-working one, or that upon
finding out that their interface didn't work, people just deleted the
program and went about their business!
tom could you perhaps ask a question at MOTU about this? maybe if you
include enough technical jargon you might get past a support-bot to
someone who knows what's up.
thanks man

I use an MOTU Miditimepiece AV.
Turn it on, fire up mrp, a see lights blink like I expect while coremidi
comes to life. After that, nothing.
Now the fun part. If I fire up another working Midi app such as Clockworks
which is MOTU's midi patch manager for the timepiece, mrp will magically
start working.
A while back you sent me a couple test programs which just init'd midi and
sent some data, just dug one out and it doesnt work. I even updated the
MOTU drivers to the latest and greatest version.
Figured I'd mention...

Hi there,
I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have spent the

last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for peace and human rights (especially
refugees and asylum seekers) on the Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks
publisher. I have launched many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees
in Lebanon and hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I
helped make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I used
the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more about that in my
free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and could be download from my
sites.
This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating actions of
the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and human-buttons to collect
money. This is an abuse of the dignity and humanity of the refugees and must
stop immediately and a clear public apology present by The United Nations High

Hey guys just wanted to let you know about something I've found,
thought I should share with some of you. A few months ago I was working 12 hours
a day, two jobs, but as of last week I quit both of them, thanks to something my
mate told me about. Now I work answering calls from home, and I am making twice
as much and working less than ever. It is a great feeling to wake up in the

only real difference from 1.0.1 is midi clock reception via the
"midisync" command in the shell. go back to internal clock with
"internalsync". in midisync mode, the sequencer pretty much only
listens for start, stop, and continue via midi messages.
this is the first crack at midi clock so everyone break it and tell
me how you did it.
no midi sync transmission yet. the code is there but i've not had
chance to integrate it.
thanks,

hmmmm that's interesting. perhaps if we could build a list of working
and non-working midi interfaces then some kind of pattern could be
established. can everyone chime in? thanks...

that's fine. i'm just happy it works for you. personally i think the
combination of randomnote n n+20 and then fitkey is one of the best
pseudo-algorithmic composition tools i've used! :-)

YES! See Jason, I'm not the only one! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA
You can also just have the Apple MIDI Setup app open and it will work.
This seems to be MOTU specific, too bad they never answer emails. I've been
pestering Jason about this for a while now...

Here's a silly uneducated guess- perhaps it has something to do with
"MIDI time stamping" and other similar timing-correction systems.
Maybe running the control panel forces it to quit waiting for an
"ok, send it now" message before outputting the MIDI.

It was just an unscientific, subjective impression. It's been a few
years since I've used Seq303, but I remember that I usually had to
redo the randomise function 10-20 times before finding anything
worthy of further tweaking.
I can usually get something worthy of further tweaking within only
a few randomisations with MRP.
It's probably some combination of using a more limited note range,
having better synth patches, and being less picky about the output.
It just sounds really good. Sorry I can't be more specific.
-Don
hey don,
thanks for reporting the filename space problem. the shell itself
allows quoting of arguments in order to include spaces in filenames,
but the UI wasn't doing this. i just fixed it and i'll put 1.0.1 up
hopefully tonight.
other users have reported similar problems with MOTU (and a few
other) interfaces. seems like some interfaces need a tickle of some
sort before they'll send or receive, even though the box acts like
it's all ready to go. we've not got to the bottom of this yet.
could you describe what you mean by "lucky" in the randomise note
thing? :-) the algorithm used is a straight randomise, with no
tinkering.
thanks for using the MRP sequencer,

Open / Save wasn't working for me- I could save a file,
but I couldn't get it to load back up again.
Apparently, there shouldn't be any spaces in the file path.
After renaming my "MRP Sequences" folder to "Sequences",
I could open saved files just fine.
I'm using a MOTU MIDI Timepiece AV USB interface, and I've
noticed that I need to have the MOTU "Clockworks" control
panel application running at all times to get MIDI to work.
Please pardon my ignorance if this is normal OSX behavior.
I've only been using OSX for a couple of weeks, and hadn't
been doing MIDI with it at all yet.
Now that I've got it working, the sequencer is really cool.
The "Randomise Note" feature seems to be ridiculously "lucky".
Way luckier than what I remember of Seq303.
Thanks!
Don Linder
i notice there are people on the MRP list. are you using the
sequencer? how are you getting on? please feel free to suggest
changes, moan about stuff, or report bugs. we're here and listening.

i have code to send midi clock, but right now it doesn't do it off
the bat. we were basically aiming for stable basic functionality with
the 1.0 release, and then after everyone stops breaking it :-) then
stuff like sync would come along soon after.
i can't implement slide directly as of course this is a MIDI
sequencer. potentially however there could be a per-step programmable
portamento value, though. assuming everyone has the same CC number
for portamento!
