Somehow you are not connecting to the right serial port. When you download
the P-code the lights should blink rapidly. Check to make sure you are
connected to the same serial port you have configured IC to use.

D2 blinks ON and OFF whether or not I "OK" the download from ICWIN.
In other words, I don't see a difference in the blinking from before
I "OK" the download to after I "OK" the download. I do get a timeout
error from the IC.

Thanks Scott,

I've already tried all the combinations that I can think of. I am
getting nowhere. I have made sure that there is no other driver set to
the Com1 Port and I have set the .ini file to Port 0, 1, or 2. I have
also connected a known good modem to th Com1 Port and it worked just
fine. I later removed the driver for the modem.
I have not seen any documentation as to what the Com Port setting
should be set to (Baud rate/start/stop). Where is that specified?

I there any other way to asses what is going on or where I can get
this thing debugged? Is there a service somewhere?

Thanks,

It sounds like the detectors are fine (85 is the no-IR level) your LEDs are
either not on, in backwards, or not modulated at 40kHz.

hi scott,

how do we put on the LEDs? How will we modulate it at 40 kHz or
is it modulated already?

we didnt change anything in the robot...we only followed all the
hacking procedures for the hardware and we're trying to run the
softwares now and it is our problem...that the IRs are not returning
values it should, when we cover the LEDs...

   Thanks a lot!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to use IC 3.1 for Mac. When I first start the program, I get an error
dialog box:
"Screwup Reading a Character." If I click "ok" it comes back several times
before disappearing.
Then if I attempt to connect to the board, it comes back again and keeps coming
up over and
over again no matter how many times I click "ok." I eventually have to force
quit. Any idea
what could cause this??

Thanks god I found this place. I got a TJ-pro kit and have few
questions for all you highness.
1) I hookup all the wires and can successfully download the pcode
ocassionally. Sometime the computer just cant detect the board. Would
it be my problem on soldering?
2) I am confused the location for PortB and PortC. I want to hook up a
gameboy camera to the digital output ports (I read the motorola manual
and found that portB wpuld be my ideal choice) however I am not able
to figure out the location myself, for the MTJPRO11 board, are those 8
pins in the middle (databus) the PortB or where would it be?
3) I have problem while compiling a .c file with "#include <xxx.h>"
and something like
    "#define PORTA (*(unsigned char *)(_IO_BASE + 0x00))", seems
like the compiler cant recgonize the "#include" and "*", I installed
the icw32 software setup file.
Thanks alot.

That's interesting... Visual inspection of what, exactly? The wires and such or
the pole itself?

Possibly. Do you think you didn't solder it well?

See the schematic on page 21 of the TJ Pro Assemby Manual. Port C is brought out
to the 8
pins labeled IRLED OUTPUT HEADER on the board where the LED's connect for the TJ
Pro
Robot. Port B seems to be connected only to U6 which is the SRAM. Perhaps it is
used for
communication with the RAM only? I'm not sure... maybe you could get Port B
through the
8 pins labeled DATABUS? I don't know so you'll have to research the manual more.

I haven't done this myself, but it should be possible as the CMUcam only needs a
serial port
to communicate with the main board. According to the specs of the MSC11 (the
board
powering the TJ),
http://mekatronix.com/detailed/mscc11.htm
, the board has a 6 pin header connected to the serial port.

Hope this helps,

Hi Jess,

I believe you will need to purchase the MB2325 or the USB2325
separately in order to connect the TJ Pro to your computer for
programming. If you plan on buying the USB2325, you can save money by
buying direct from here: http://www.dlpdesign.com/usb/txrx.shtml
instead of the mekatronix eBay store. The DLP-TXRX is what mekatronix
sells as the USB2325, the only difference is you will have to make
the four wire connector between the board and the robot- a very
simple thing to do. In either case you will have to buy the USB A to
5 pin Mini B adapter to connect the board to your computer, unless
you already have one lying around as these are the same adapters that
are used for many digital cameras and mp3 players...

Good luck,

Saleem

Does anyone have any idea what the precision is for the analog input on the TJ
Pro or where I
might find that information?

When you query analog(2); for example, you get a number returned that changes
depending
on the voltage at the input from 0-5V. So how many volts have to change to
increment that
value by one?

It's probably in their documentation sections too. Not sure what the

Hi,

I just bought a TJ-Pro and I am having problems loading the initial
code onto the robot. Upon installing the Interactive C freeware and
attempting to follow the instructions for loading the bootstrap code,
etc this is what happens:

I start IC and there is an error message. I connect the robot. The
MB2325 red diode lights up and stays on when I reset the robot in
download mode. I follow the prompt to configure the board and to
select the com port and press Download Pcode. I select the TJ-PRO.ic
file and hit ok. This happens:

Please find the definition file that matches your board type.
Downloading bootstrap code to the board (256 bytes)
Downloading bootstrap code to the board (256 bytes)
Bootstrap load successful.
Downloading the pcode to the board... this may take a while.
Download complete.

The next error message appears telling me to reset the board in run
mode. I do so and click "OK". This happens:

An error message appears telling me "Board error. Retry?". If I click

I have no idea what this means and cannot seem to get past this
error, and its always the exact same one. Can anyone tell me how to
resolve this issue?

It's probably because you are using the freeware version which is not
supported by the manufacture (or anyone).

You can purchase the latest version of IC (MrRobot sells it for $19) and then
use the following scheme:

INSTALLATION

0. Unzip your tjpicw01.zip file.
1. Install IC by executing the distribution icw32.exe. Follow directions.
Enter your name and
the 17-digit code when prompted for. Name your ic directory ictjp
during
installation.
2. Rename your ic directory to ictjp, if you did not install it as such in
Step 1.
3. Transfer the TJ PRO directory tjpcode into c:\ictjp
4. Transfer ALL the files in Libtjp directory into the c:\ictjp\libs
DO NOT TRANSFER the directory Libtjp into libs!
5. Download the IC pcoder as prescribed below.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOWNLOADING THE IC pcoder IN WIN95

1.Turn on the robot.

2. Place the DOWNLOAD/RUN toggle switch into DOWNLOAD.

3. From Windows execute IC.
IC will give an error message that the board is not responding. Not to
worry! The board is not responding because you have not had a chance
to load
the p-coder and relevant libraries into the robot. Select the Yes
button in
the IC error Window to configure the board.

4. The system is configured to enable COM1 for serial communication.
If you wish to use another COM port select it on the screen that now
appears. To make your selection the default, you will need to change the
Port = 1 command in the ic.ini file to Port = n, where n is the COM port
number you picked.

5. Select the Download Pcode button in the opened IC Window.
IC will now open the Libs directory.

6. Select the file TJ-pro.icd file to open.

7. Press the red RESET button on the robot.

8. Select the OK button in the window.
You will observe a flurry of loading activity with the green LEDs on the
MB2325 board rapidly flashing.

IC will prompt you to perform Steps 9 and 10.

9. Switch the robot DOWNLOAD/RUN toggle switch to RUN.

10. Press the red RESET button.

IC will then load the remaining library files onto the robot and you are
ready to go.

     IMPORTANT!

As long as you keep the batteries charged and connected to the robot
controller, the p-coder will not have to be reloaded and you can turn the
power switch on-and-off at will. You can also exit and restart IC with a
simple invokation. For example, suppose you exit IC and then wish to
restart
later. Just turn the robot power on, put it in run mode and then
execute IC.
That's all there is to it!

If the batteries drain or are disconnected or you otherwise overwrite
memory
you will have to repeat the first time load procedure described above.

Ok so I checked my version of IC and I believe I have the commercial
version (v3.2) as opposed to the freeware version (which is v2.8,
correct?). I was confused because it came bundled with the robot. My
mistake. Is there any other reason why this might be happening?

are you seeing the LEDs on the MB2325 board flash? Both of them? Also what
Com port are you using and is it a USB based com port or are there any
interrupt conflicts.

I'm looking at building a control system for electric go-karts at an
entertainment complex I'm currently involved with (Arnold's Family Fun
Center, http://www.arnoldsfamilyfuncenter.com). I have experience
working with micro-controllers and I do
a good bit of programming (mostly c) for a living.

I pretty sure Mr Robot has everything I need. I'm just finding it
difficult to figure out what the packages include and which ones I need.

Essentially I'm looking to build the following:
http://www.arnoldsfamilyfuncenter.com/images/RCgraph.jpg

Customer Service pointed me here with technical questions, so I'd
thought I'd pick some brains a bit.

Any help is very much appreciated. Let me know if anyone needs more
info.
