[mrtg] Re: SNMP and HP JetDirect Cards

Not sure if this has been brought up yet or not, but often a great deal of
configuration can be done from telnetting to the Jetdirect cards and boxes.
IIRC, I configured the community strings on my card through Telnet. At
least on the older Laserjet 4-ish Jetdirects, I've seen a great deal of
disconnect in terms of what can be defined through JetAdmin and what can be
defined through telnet.

Now, determining the telnet password, that's an entirely different problem.

Hi folks

HP4050TN w/JetDirect card.
Card has BNC, Appletalk, and RJ-45 Enet connectors on it
(if that makes any difference).

Using the JetAdmin program, I can find references to
SNMP stats, but cannot locate where to set the public string
and can't find where to enable SNMP reporting.

Perhaps JetAdmin will read out stats but the card isn't capable
of responding directly to SNMP queries? I wasn't in charge of
the mouse when the first cursory look at the admin program
was done, so perhaps I need to go back and look deeper for
where one enables SNMP and sets the public string?

Anyone successfully graphing JetDirect interface cards?

I just found an appropriate mib for a LJ4050 on somix.com
so it looks like it can be done since there's a mib for the printer.

Thanks folks.
