Re: [mt-dev] Defensio spam service launches, Akismet competitor

I think Matthieu and team who built Defensio have done a great job. I really like the feature that spam exists on a spectrum of spaminess. I think Akismet does an excellent job, but I have always thought its binary nature to be insanely myopic. Of course I don’t think Akismet creators saw a value in such fine grained detail.

Defensio on the other hand did. They realized that spam sorted by date is far less useful then spam sorted by spaminess. Because even the best spam services need to be checked for correctness because spammers are constantly adapting. Sorting by spaminess shows a great respect for my time I think.

Second, I really like the idea of color coding spam to help me even further identify that spam that exists on the fringes of spam, so even I choose to sort by date I have a way to quickly differentiate those messages that are definitely spam, from those that aren’t.

Thanks Tim for getting on building a plugin. I look forward to adding it to my spam fighting arsenal.

No MT plugin yet, but they're looking for someone to do it:

Besides whatever arrangement you may reach with them, I'll throw $25 into a bounty for this.
I'm becoming less and less interested in using anything associated with Automattic.

I'd agree with that as well. While Akismet says "yes" or "no", the Defensio information seems to include a rating of the "spaminess", but other than that it's...
