I think everything is OK is with my MT installation, except that internal server
error which
happens only when I rebuild templates containing feeds.app code. If I remove the
code from
the templates, then they rebuild normally.

My webhost has some limitations CGI limitations:

Processing time: 12 seconds @ 100%
Memory 16384KB (16MB)
Number of processes 12

I guess it's better to look for help in the MT forums.

How did you go about getting MT installed on the server?

The error indicates that the system had a problem processing the mt.cgi
script.

I have a problem with feeds.app since I moved to a new webhost. When I try to
rebuild a
template that has feeds.app code in it, there is an Internal Server Error. The
server log file
says "Premature end of script headers:
/www/samocska.com/www/root/_source/mt/mt.cgi".

The hosting company support people couldn't help me. Do you guys know something
about
this problem?

Thanks!

I copied the files and now it works.

The "bug" is that MT keeps shipping an out-of-date version of that
library that has a bug effecting my feed plugins. I've filed a couple
of bug reports, but they haven't acted on it yet.

I ship a newer version of URI::Fetch with Feeds.App that was
overwritten when you upgraded. URI::Fetch is a pure-perl library with
only two files to it. If you could grab the latest module files and
place them at extlib/URI/Fetch.pm and extlib/URI/Fetch/Response.pm
files that error should go away.

yes, they definitely have.

I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, so is there anywhere in the code I could

Thanks for your help!

There were a few bug fixes (including the removal of some debugging
code like you saw) that came after RC1 that MT4 exposed so I'm glad
you took the first logical step of upgrading to the final release.

I need you to ask a few question to get to the bottom of this.

What is the frequency set at in your system plugin settings?
How long have you been observing it through periodic tasks?
Have the feeds you are pointing to been updated since you started running v3?

Hi all,

I'm trying to get Feeds.app running with MT's task manager. I tried RC1 under MT
3.34
and it was started but produced errors when trying to rebuild my main index.
Data::Dumper output of the error message was as follows:

$VAR1 = {
'metadata' => 'Build-Fehler im Template \'Haupt-Index\': Fehler im
<MTInclude>-Tag: Fehler im <MTInclude>-Tag: Fehler im
<MTArchiveList>-Tag:
Fehler im <MTArchiveLink>-Tag: Sie haben mit einem <$MTArchiveLink$>-Tag
\'Monthly\'-Archive verlinkt, ohne diese vorher zu ver?ffentlichen.
'
         };

Basically it complains about the main index using a link to a monthly archive
that hadn't
been published before. Which of course is what happens when only one template
can be
refreshed.

So I upgraded MT to version 3.35 and Feeds.app to version 3.0 proper and nothing
happens anymore. run-periodic-tasks is executed every 5 minutes by cron. That it
works
is evidenced by the junk comments being expunged. But no mention of Feeds.app
anywhere in the activity log.

I haven't changed anything in the configuration and have not the slightest idea
where to
start.

Any help'd be highly appreciated

chris

Ok...in the meantime, I'm going to move the feeds-app-lite dir, again, so
I can have functionality working.

That is kind of bizarre because disabling your plugin should have
stopped MT from looking into that directory for usable code. You may
have come across a bug in MT. Could you do this -- put the
feeds-app-lite directory back into plugins, make sure it is disable
like before and then go into the system view. Once in there under the
tools directory click System information. One screen that appears
you'll see a section labelled "Perl include path" with a listing akin
to this one:

plugins/tidy/lib
plugins/foo-social/lib
plugins/xsearch/lib
plugins/tags/lib
plugins/layouts/lib
plugins/foo/lib
plugins/contact/lib
plugins/gizmos/lib
plugins/StyleCatcher/lib
plugins/feeds-app-lite/lib
plugins/MultiBlog/lib
plugins/spamlookup/lib
plugins/Textile/lib
plugins/WXRImporter/lib
plugins/WidgetManager/lib
/usr/home/foo/public_html/cgi-bin/mt/extlib
/usr/home/foo/public_html/cgi-bin/mt/extlib
/usr/home/foo/public_html/cgi-bin/mt/lib
/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i386-freebsd
/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8
/usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/i386-freebsd
/usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8
/usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl

The question I have is: is feeds-app-lite still listed even though it
is disable?

Bugger all...this is what fixed it. I moved the feeds-app-lite
subdirectory off to somewhere else...when I went in to create a new feed
widget, after that, the dialog looked different, and the creation worked.

I'm afraid that I can, yes. I just had it happen for me on my Windows
Vista laptop, running Firefox 2.0.0.9 and IE7, just now.

According to the dashboard, yes. I've attached screen shot of both the
system level and blog level plugin screens.

This is on an upgraded MT (3.35 to 4.01) on which I had feeds.app lite
disabled and was running feeds.app 3 rc3, previously.

Should I try moving/removing the Feeds.App Lite directory, and see if that
helps?

I can't reproduce but...

Could you verify that you can indeed replicate this in Windows. I'm
plugging into the javascript MT provides and I know that they do not
test Linux at all. (They try, but there is a limit to their official
support.) One possibility is that its some type of JavaScript quirk.
I'd like to eliminate that.

Is Feeds.App LITE disabled? The Feeds Widget was was originally
created for Lite and then brought back into its commercial older
sibling. While its appears the same its actually different code
running. If Lite were enabled its possible the standard app is calling
a lite code causing the error you see.

Subject: Feeds.App Final version - problem creating feed widget in MT 4.01?

I've been testing the Feds.App RC series for a while, and using it
successfully under MT 3.3x.

I've recently upgraded to MT 4.01, and installed the "Final" version of
Feeds.App, and I'm noticing two things.

First...after installation, the plugin identifies itself in the plugin
list as Feeds.App 3.0 RC4, though I'm sure that's just cosmetic.

Second, when I go into one of my blogs' settings, go the Blog Templates
area, and select "Create a Feed Widget, it darkens the rest of the browser
window and "pops up" the "Feeds.App Widget Creator" in what ought to be,
but isn't quite a window.

I input the full URL to a site's feed, click "Continue" and that "pop up"
window returns:

An error occurred
close Unknown action select

with buttons for "Close" and "Go Back".

"Go Back" takes me back to the widget creator, "Close" does nothing, and I
can't close this "pop up" window.

It happens in both IE6 and Firefox 2.0.0.6 running under Fedora Core 6,
though I suspect I can replicate this behavior on my Windows systems, as
well.

Is anyone else running into this?

It's been a long time coming, but I'm finally taking off the Release
Candidate label and calling Feeds.App 3 a final. From all the tests
and feedback I've received, pretty solid.

Read more about what Feeds.App can do and download it here:
http://appnel.com/code/feeds-app

I just put together a comparing it with Feeds.App Lite:
http://appnel.com/kb/feeds-app/feedsapp-lite-vs-feedsapp

More documentation can be found here:
http://appnel.com/docs/feeds-app

Not to break from tradition, the documentation is mostly there, but a
bit incomplete.

Feedback appreciated. Enjoy and thanks.

OK. I'll have to look into this. It could be a bug like a lost config
variable or a bad look up.

I understand the issue and will also look into this.

In the meanwhile I've listed these issues in the known issued, but
marked that I've yet to officially confirm them. Hopefully later today
or tomorrow I'll have something.

Yes, my Custom Index Template is called "Home Page", which is assigned
to the "Rebuild Template" option in the Feeds.App settings. The
example markup is from the same template, it's not a module.

Yes, in this case the closing UL in MTDateFooter appears.

Yes, here the UL in MTDateFooter is missing.

Thank you for trying to help me. I'll try making changes and I'll tell
you if I find something new.

This is more helpful. There's a few of things to look at here.

That's OK. I'll try not to get too crazy with my slang.

By design the Update Blog Feeds will NOT rebuild a page with feeds
after fetching them. As for run-periodic-tasks, did you assign an
index template to rebuild in the weblog settings? Is the example
markup in that template or a module called by that template? Sorry if
these seem like dumb questions to you. This is a change from version 2
to 3 that I thought perhaps you missed in the documentation.

These are warnings which are annoying, but generally harmless. I've
noted that these should be cleaned up in the next release. You can
ignore them for now.

So if there are 3 entries and you capped them at 5 you get to closing
UL tags. If there are 10 entries and you cap it at 5, only 1 closing
UL appears? That would be a bug that I have to look into.

Sorry I didn't provide more info. And my English is bad... What I was
trying to say in my previous post is that no new feed entries appear
in my site, despite ruining run-periodic-tasks and using Update Blog
Feeds from the Dashboard. Only rebuilding the template updates the
feeds.

There is nothing unusual in the Activity Log.

Here is what I'm getting from the cron job (run-periodic-tasks):

I really could use more then this to work off of. Are you receiving
any error messages in your Activity Log? Could you be more specific
about how its not updating the feeds? Its not that I don't believe you
its just that I need to understand what you are expecting to happen
that isn't.

Has anyone else out there experienced this?

Hi Tim,

I'm still having problems with the new version. I just found that
updating the feeds from the Tools menu doesn't work, and also
"run-periodic-tasks" doesn't update them. Only rebuilding the template
updates the feeds.

Great.

Two things while you brought them up.

1) The error message you posted indicated you are working with the
pure Perl XML parser. While this is pretty good and provides a pretty
solid last resort fallback, its slow and is prone to issues where a
typical XML parser would not. expat and LibXML are the most common XML
parsers. Their SAX drivers are XML::SAX::ExpatXS and XML::LibXML::SAX
respectively. MT will detect if these are available and automatically
use them instead of the pure Perl option.

2) I suggest using the feeds list in the plugin settings of each blog.
This is where the task manager that is built into MT will look when
running. I also think most would prefer to work in a browser then
dealing with text files. I have more planned in this area, but for now
I've dropped in this basic starting point.

For more on what is new and different in Feeds.App 3 see this doc:

Hi Tim,

Thank you for releasing this new version. I'm going to buy a personal
license..

I have a problem though :( There is an error message when rebuilding:

No _parse_* routine defined on this driver (If it is a filter,
remember to set the Parent property. If you call the parse() method,
make sure to set a Source. You may want to call parse_uri,
parse_string or parse_file
instead.) [XML::SAX::PurePerl=HASH(0xa11bfe0)] at /home/martinpe/
public_html/samocska/_source/mt/extlib/XML/SAX/Base.pm line 2308.

I'm running MT 4.01 with feeds.app lite disabled. Is there something
I can do to fix it?

Thanks,
Martin

I just released Feeds.App 3 Release Candidate 3 through my site. I
hope will be the last, before (finally) going gold with this one. I
tried to out distance GMail for longest beta ever, but they have more
endurance then I thought. ;)

The updated wizard found in Feeds.App Lite 1.02 has now been
integrated into the commercial plugin for MT4 users. This release also
adds in a couple of dependencies that got dropped from the
distribution, fixes a bug in the encoded text handing of titles and
similar items and the typo that caused the menu problems for MT4 users.

Good assumption! I am using MT 3.3. Thanks for the suggestion.

Easy installation and problem solved. Thank you!
