i wish i could write this all at once but i keep thinking of things after im done. but the 2tr in is stereo, but you have to use the monitor out rca's to hear it. you are still getting stereo, just no eq.

I thought those were the "stereo" inputs, but it is possible you can only mix them in for recording purposes and not monitor them otherwise (though that would seem a little odd). I've still got my manual, so I'll
check as soon as I can find it ;->
I used to be quite active on the group, but I've been lurking for a while (years in fact!)
I use my MD8 mainly as a mixer for live work in church these days. It has the added bonus of playing back pre-recorded music when needed.
There are two RCA inputs at the back labelled '2 TR in', which I have tried (unsuccessfully) to use to channel a CD player's output (R+L stereo) into the main mix - as background music or sometimes as a kind karaoke sing-along when I don't have time
to pre-record the tracks onto disk.
However I can't get any sound out! I've tried playing with the 'stereo' and 'monitor' buttons, to no avail.
has anyone used this input successfully?
I don't want to have to use up two input channels for the CD R+L, I would rather utilise the 2TRin input.
Blessings,
Simon

thanks Roger and Bob!
I now have acquired a couple of ideas I will try next
time.... I too have a manual but as most of us, am too
bone lazy to check it out myself..!
And thanks for asking, life on a small island far, far
away has changed dramatically for the worse. So much
so in fact, that we left and now live in New Zealand.
Since 2001. This might explain my silence I suppose,
as I haven't done much recording since the move.
Blessings all

Do you Yahoo!?
Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Mail beta.
http://new.mail.yahoo.com
Ive got a surplus of discs available--Im getting rid of 20 discs-18
used and 2 sealed. There the Sony make and Im selling at 12EU each or
or 200Eu the lot.
I fired up my Sony MDMX4 the other night after not using it for a
couple of years. I'd forgotten how easy it is to use. The physical
UI is MUCH simpler and faster to use than computer based recording...
Anyway can anyone recommend a good source for MD data discs? The local
Guitar Center stopped selling them years ago...
Thanks,
Charles
Try [www.musiciansfriend.com ]. They have TDK for $15 USD. Don't buy the 1
GB Sony - I'm pretty sure they won't work in our old equipment. They do work
in new MiniDisk player/recorders.

I still use my Yamaha MD8 and I too enjoy the easy recording. Particularly
if you have to play & record.
I bought an M-Audio Delta 1010LT card for my PC and 8 RCA cables. I record
our band on 8 simultaneous tracks on the Yamaha MD8 at our practice. I go
home and connect my Yamaha MD8 to the 1010 and download using Cakewalk/SONAR
home Recording. The editing is very flexible and I can polish up the mix and
create MP3. It works very well.
Good Luck

Hi,
I have just joined this group because I want to chat to people who use
the Sony MDM 4 track.
I have several of these items and have used them quite successfully but
there are areas that I would like assistance on from time to time.
If there is anything I can offer I would be please to do so. My website
is www.excellentleads.com
Thanks for letting me in.
Best wishes,
Will

Hola! Does anyone know how to replace the battery in a Sony MDM-X4?
Will my Sony MDM-X4 still work without it?
Should I have it replaced by someone who knows what they're doing?
Is it important?........Thanks,,,daviD

i have no idea, but i sell you my x4 if you want to buy it
I used to be a member of this group, back when I used an MD8
regularly. I was cleaning up recently and came across around 13 unused
MD Data discs. Anyone want to trade for these?
I record onto a Mac now, so anything you have you're not using would
be fine, I'm not expecting to make money on this. I remember my MD8
fondly and it would be nice if the discs were with someone who can use
them. Email me privately if interested.
I still have my MD8. How much for the
discs to just buy?
Thanks,
Karl

The discs have been claimed. Thanks for all the responses!

If you are looking for manuals for the Sony MDM X4, I've got these in Adobe PDF....too large to post to this group (9MB and 15MB, respectively, after compression). I've posted them to the following locations (paste entire URL into your browser address bar):

Knock Knock!
Wow! I still use my Yamaha MD8. How about you?
I still check eBay for 140Mb MiniDiscs. I still don't know how to use
all the features of my MD8. I have even managed to use regular stereo
MiniDiscs to produce some nice recordings!
For example: Guitar on Track 1, Bass Guitar on track 2. The bump down
to track 1 and add Drums to track 2. In some cases, I'll bump again to
add vocals.
Point is, where there's a will and a small pot of disposable income,
there is a way!
Chime in if you have an ounce of motivation!
Rock on,
James
Maryland, USA
My Yamaha MD4S is still the only thing with which I record.
Love it. No great desire to replace it. :)

Simon here - was in the sunny Solomon Islands, now in New Zealand.
......yeah, still alive and kicking. Still use my MD8, though like Dave, haven't dusted it off in a few months due to family & church committments.
Hoping to get a bit more time later this year as I release some workload and maybe do an album.
Having said that, looking at my friend's setup on his PC, the MTMD has been left behind somewhat in the last few years.... but my MD8 is rugged, portable and reliable even if it doesnt have all the fancy software features!!!!
Rock on MTMD group!!!

Haven't used mine in a while (had a couple of kids), but plan to use it again once the little ones settle down a bit.
At $15 a pop, you can get 140MB discs on Amazon as well (TDK). Thought I'd check to make sure my technology isn't getting older faster than I am.
