i wish i could write this all at once but i keep thinking of things after im done. but the 2tr in is stereo, but you have to use the monitor out rca's to hear it. you are still getting stereo, just no eq.

I thought those were the "stereo" inputs, but it is possible you can only mix them in for recording purposes and not monitor them otherwise (though that would seem a little odd). I've still got my manual, so I'll
check as soon as I can find it ;->
I used to be quite active on the group, but I've been lurking for a while (years in fact!)
I use my MD8 mainly as a mixer for live work in church these days. It has the added bonus of playing back pre-recorded music when needed.
There are two RCA inputs at the back labelled '2 TR in', which I have tried (unsuccessfully) to use to channel a CD player's output (R+L stereo) into the main mix - as background music or sometimes as a kind karaoke sing-along when I don't have time
to pre-record the tracks onto disk.
However I can't get any sound out! I've tried playing with the 'stereo' and 'monitor' buttons, to no avail.
has anyone used this input successfully?
I don't want to have to use up two input channels for the CD R+L, I would rather utilise the 2TRin input.
Blessings,
Simon

i have the four track and it has a 2tr button on the moniter select part of the mixer, which allows me to hear whatever is plugged into the 2 track input. i can only hear it if the output is on monitor,or through the headphones, you can not hear it on the stereo output. hope this helps you.

i just thought of this too, why not just put the cd player through 2 of your 8 channels and pan them l and r, then you would get output through the stereo out. not to mention then you can eq your source. but now i see that you said you dont want to do that so nevermind. but thats the only way you are going to get through to the stereo out. the sound through the 2tr in is going to be flat...no eq. i have the md4s which gives me 4 additional line inputs that i can send to the 4 recording channels. a friend of mine has the md8 but i dont remember if it has the same feature....does it? if so put the cd player through those, as it will send it to the stereo out.

Hi! I use an MDM X4 (yep, still do) in conjunction with PC
MIDI/Audio...primarily as a mixer, but I normally do some track
recording, mixdown and finalization to the minidisk.
I have not seen the fader problem you mention. But can offer a few
suggstions/things to check:
1. Check your track monitor levels and track monitor on/off switches
on the right hand side of the board control panel....if your track
monitor levels are cranked up, you might not notice the impact of
track fader changes.
2. Are you monitoring stereo out or monitor out? Might be an output
difference...I dont have the unit in front of me at the moment to
check, however
3. I have had some problems with a controller not working on the unit
from time to time...usually when it has sat idle for a while. I've
resolved this by turning it on and leaving it on for 24 hours or so.
If you can see the levels rise and and fall for each track during
playback, its not a fader problem and is likely 1. or 2.
Hope this helps....long live the X4!

Hey all...I'm ready to upgrade my little recording studio. My MD 8 is
still working perfectly but its time for something with a digital out
to run to my Masterlink. If you could manage to pick it up here in
Illinois, I could prove that it works as good as new and show you
everything I have learned like how to bounce, punch in, etc. I'd take
$500 which will include 20 MDs. Still have the owner's manual too.
If you're interested, email me at warnkdy@... later, wpk
I have an MD 8 but never a problem. Sorry
I cannot help.

Hello guys i have just found you while googling for help for my
husband. He has been using his Yamaha MD4 since he bought it for a
huge amount of money nearly fifteen years ago. Today he was sat
recording and the stop/write TOC button went. It wouldnt stop or write
or anything and he lost his work. Do any of you know how to fix this
kind of thing? what do you do if the button goes? It randomly started
working again so he hasnt totally despaired but if it goes again i'm
going to have a very miserable man on my hands.
He is a home recording devotee and even though he knows his MD4 is old
and outdated he'd be lost without it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry for blunderiung into
your group in a panic! :D
Thanks, I`ll give it a go synching it up, then I`ll post here with
the results!
Thanks again,

1 other thing to try. i dont know if the md4 has mmc, midi machine control, but on my md4s it does.i can control all the functions of my minidisc recorder from another device. command 1 is stop on mine and command 40 is write toc. if you want anymore on this dont hesitate to ask. i dont have a tascam, but my yamaha could do it like this.....first either way would work, if you have a sound card with 4 outs you could do it that way. if you use midi, you could record each track seperately to your minidisc, just use the mtc, or midi clock to sync your computer software to your tascam. then all your tracks will be in sync during playback. hope this helps

Anyone have this problem and find a remedy? I'll sometimes hear a loud
pop on a track on playback. I can isolate the track, but I can't fix
it. Even when recorded properly, this seems to happen to tracks
randomly from time to time. Is it dirt on the disk? Is it a data loss
due to exposure to heat or cold or something? It's maddening. Please
help!
