Hi folks,

Has any one had any experience with reviving faulty USB sticks? I have
one with some desirable data on it and have been asked to give it a go.

When plugged into a USB port a message "USB device not recognised" is
shown.

The device was on a key ring and stopped working after being dropped
heavily on a table top.

I removed the case and checked with a loupe for any bad joins or
cracked components or connections, I suspected the crystal may have
become faulty and after locating the Xtal pins on the MCU checked them
with my oscilloscope.

There was no waveform on them so I tend to think the xtal may be faulty
as in the past I usually find I can get a waveform on the xtal pins.

I'd like to solder another 12.00mhz xtal in place but my eyes arn't as
good as they used to be. If any one with surface mount skills and
equipment would like to help please let me know. There is renumeration
for a successful recovery of data.

Thanks, Ron...

Hiyi Chris,

Yeah I'm doing ok, my younger brother passed away 2 weeks ago so it's been a crap fortnight but yu get that.  So where are you working now?  Is it full time?

I have an 8051 dev kit here that I must get stuck into soon however that PCB mill sounds awesome, please keep us informed on the cost per board.

Mick.

Taught myself how to use PICs because you can get more jobs with them. I'm gunna have to learn the 8051 as well because we are going to be using NRF9E5 and CC2431 system on chip radios at work soon.

Just out of interest to all of you out there, the school has just purchased a PCB mill, we can do 0.2 mm traces with 0.2 mm clearance with plated through hole vias. We will soon be taking orders, I don't know how much yet.

Hello Andrew

I got your last email but before I could read it my system crashed bigtime.

Something corrupted half of my system files and the BIOS on my machine.

I got it fixed but I have lost your message, could you please send it again or ring me on 0403 878 175

Chris

Ok write my name on the box, definately take the ICE and I doubt I could
turn away any of the rest. Not sure about getting to meeting as I now
act as taxi service for my daughters work commitments :(

Hello Guys, the only thing gone so far are the Amstrad parts. I am going to bring the whole box to MUGWA on Tuesday and any body who turns up can have what ever they want. After that I am going to bin what is left. Surely one of you guys out there wants a Z80 ICE, lots of Z80 family parts, heaps of rom and sram and some boards already to go. For that matter what about the opto 22 stuff? If you can’t make it to the meeting then ring me on 0403878175. J

Merry XMAS
