Hi folks,
I'm just seeing these messages but I have been for the past hour in the
process of figuring out that the way to PULL in Ning content was to use its
RSS feeds.
Accordingly I've just set up an evo2009mlit folder in my Google Reader. I
use Google Reader now but I've in the past used Bloglines. In managing
folders I like Bloglines better (simpler and more intuitive) though if I can
ever get the hang of Google reader I think I will appreciate the ability to
add tags and labels, and you can gmail or blog your discoveries right from
the application, and star items to be able to quickly recall them, and a lot
of other things Google think of.
So these are the aggregators or feed readers you can use. You can also use
Pageflakes or Netvibes to pull in content more visually on a home page you
create, so if you like this option, this discussion applies.
All of these applications work on the RSS feeds generated by sites like
blogs, nings, and the messages here in YahooGroups. In any of these you can
find an orange RSS icon. If you click on that icon you could be prompted to
subscribe to the feed or you could SEE the feed which will be gobbledegook
OPML code. This doesn't matter, what you want is the URL of that feed so
you need to right click on the orange icon and choose to copy link location
(or whatever your browser calls the equivalent). You then ADD a
subscription in your feed reader or create a new RSS Pageflake and you will
be prompted to give the address of the feed you want to add. You simply
paste the feed link you just copied there.
In Google Reader there are more ways than one to add subcriptions. I've
been tagging some tutorials as I view them

So I think I've answered Michael's questions. The feed URL is a right click
away in the orange icon (copy link location in Mozilla, copy shortcut in
IE).
Not sure exactly how you do it in Netvibes but the principle is that you add
a feed widget and then supply it with the feed URL that you just copied in
the foregoing step.

Jennifer, Vance et al,
RSS is something I've never got the hang of. Here's 2 bits of Jen's
post I don't understand:
1) where do you get the feed url from?
2) I'd like to get a feed from our Ning Forum into my Netvibes, for
the reasons Vance outlined. When I go to the Forum (via the Forum
tab), there's an RSS button at the bottom of the page. When I click
this it asks me which application I want to use to subscribe to this
feed, and offers me Bloglines and some others. How do I get from there
to getting the feed into Netvibes?
Yours in multipuzzlement,
Michael
