Hi folks,
Ok, the podcasting has begun. First of all I have a podcast site
http://vance_stevens.podomatic.com/
I was thinking to start another one just for this course but this one is
actually about multilitercies and has some other podcasts on that topic so I
decided to just add the podcasts to the existing recordings. Anyone can
start a similar site at http://podomatic.com
Once you (or your students) start a site like this for free, you need to
upload some mp3s. I find that the HTML upload is awfully slow and
unreliable so I use FTP. Install an FTP client like WS_FTP and then send it
looking for ftp.podomatic.com, give it your acct name and password, and
upload your mp3 files to your account space there.
Now you have created a library of mp3 recordings. Now you can create a new
podcast and select to use one of the recordings you have ftp'd to the site
(from your library). Once you have selected to podcast a recording, you
simply fill in the forms so that you can describe the podcast. For Kim's
recording I found it handy to have already described her content at my
Tumblr blog: http://vancestevens.tumblr.com/ so I just copy pasted from
there. I have to admit I had to write in the HTML code to make the
hyperlinks work, a bit of a pain, but if you need help with this just let me
know.
I then just hit the next buttons until eventually the podcast was on the
air.
You can subscribe to the podcast by finding its RSS feed link (under
subscribe) at http://vance_stevens.podomatic.com/ and pasting this into your
Podcatcher.
I use Juice. Some use iTunes.
The podcatcher will try to give you all recent posting which you haven't
downloaded before. Next visit it will update with new content which I have
on my computer now (thanks Amy) but haven't uploaded to podomatic yet
(tomorrow).
The idea here is that as I upload this content you should be able to capture
and download it as I put it online.
And you or your students can make this happen in either direction.
Let me know if further questions,
Vance
