this low trafic is normal for moderated groups on the net

if you think it is a good idea
you yourself just start a google or a yaho group

but it wil be an uphill strugle
they tend to be a one man band

Have you considered having a forum instead of a moderated newsgroup?

You needed a moderated group because misc.writing is (or was, last time I
looked) more like misc.dicussion with occasional writing topics. But the
newsgroup hardly gets any traffic. I don't know how many people have the
problem I do of not being able to post via my ISP, but if it's a common
problem, that's a major factor. How many people try to post and just give
up rather than asking for help here?

With a forum, it would be easy for anyone to sign up and post, you'd be
able to reach people who don't know about newsgroups, and you could
remove any posts that don't belong. Forums also allow editing, closing of
threads, different sections/categories for posts, and other features.

MWM is barely a group, but I'd like to see it grow one way or another.
I've gotten work and useful information through it. There are writers'
forums, but most of the ones I've seen are only for fiction, and I write
non-fiction. I enjoy reading discussions about fiction, but I'd like a
group where both are discussed, such as MWM -- but with more discussion
and where it's easier to post.

Thanks, Sal. Personally, I find Yahoo groups to be an awkward format to use. I belong to a few, but mostly I join and then look in on them once in a while....
