Does anyone know how long the mileage is kept in the program on
computer? I am having trouble retrieving older records from my
computer even though they are still on the PDA. I would appreciate
any help with a solution. I still find this an excellent program to
use and would recommend it to anyone.

To All, thanks for the quick responses! This is a great piece of software!

Scott,
If the creator of MyCar does not give you a personal response shortly (he always
has for me), I will be glad to give you the details. I am not where I can access
that information right now, but I could get it if you don't find it elsewhere.

Here's a writeup that might help:
1.Goto your palm install folder (usually c:\Program Files\Palm\ on
windows)
2.Look for your user directory in it (usually your last name and first
initial - for me it is JainR)
3.Look for Backup directory in your user directory.
4.Find and copy and save these to a location you would remember later:
MyTripDB.PDB *
CATDB.PDB
DriverDB.pdb *
FuelDB.pdb
MaintDB.PDB *
maintOpDB.pdb *
MileageDB.PDB
myCarDB.PDB
myCardDB.PDB *
MyInsDB.PDB *
MyParkDB.PDB 8
MyStatDB.PDB *
carMakes.pdb
myCarMechDB.pdb *
* these files may or may not be available
5. Install these files on your palm using the Palm install tool.

I use the Palm version with my Mac and it syncs just fine. However, there
isnąt a Mac version of the desktop. I have volunteered to create a Mac
version and am waiting for the author to send me information on the data
files MyCar creates.
Hope this helps,
Craig

HI All
I am only a new user of my car for palm and I live in Australia where
everything is in metric and my car is in imperial EG: miles and miles
per gallon, is there any plans or any updates that I can get to use it
properly here?
Thanks
Andrew

I did too, offering to change my base mileage number but after emailing what
he needed I then never heard back from him.

Me, too, and I still use it religiously after almost/over 2 years now (I
can't remember when I first downloaded it). It's just a little frustrating
to have that base mileage number inviolable and unchangeable, and then not
be able to get it fixed or even access past messages here.
I was thinking of buying the desktop version a while back, but not until I
can get my base mileage number fixed.
Best of luck.

To migrate the files if you own a Sony Clie, you need to go to the following
folder:
Program Files/Sonyhandheld/backup
Then upload to your installer in the Palm program the files pretaining to
MyCar as listed in the initial ReadMe file.

Does anyone remember how to save old files in the My Car program so
you can migrate them to a newer device? I just bought a new Clie
and need to transfer the files. Beaming doesn't seem to do it.
Tim:
I've been emaling the developer of the program for about a year on this with
no replies -- since this is a free program, his priorities are probably
elsewhere now.
Here's all I've been able to figure out: Get into the New Fill screen, Pick
a Car, and a Category. Tap Next (don't bother putting in a Curr Odo.
Reading). Tap Next on the next screen without entering anything, and then
tap Done. The Gas Fills summary screen comes up now so tap on the 1st entry
that you just created, the one with the 0 in the Mileage column. Tap Edit
and then take out the distance traveled and manually enter the number of
miles since your last fill up (you know, the number on your trip counter
that you reset the last time you filled up) - ;-D - and then proceed to fill
in the rest of the blanks as though you were filling in a new entry.
Finally, tap Done.

Subject: Help
I used an older version of this program for a couple of years and really
liked it. When I saw the most recent version, I asked if my old data would
be compatible, and was told it would work fine. After installing the new
upgrade, I cannot get it to "sync" with the old data.
In the old version (I have no way of checking to get the version), trip
mileage was not calculated by the program and had to be entered for each
fill. When I went to the new version, I entered the mileage based on the
last fill for the base odometer reading. When I try to make a new fill
entry, the calculated trip mileage (and everything based on that figure) is
off by several thousand miles. For the life of me I have not been able to
find a way to work around this.
I do have two vehicles that I track, and the same problem exists for both.
Can anyone offer a suggestion on how to get this to work?
Thanks

MyCar is a great program and I have been using it for over a year (maybe 2?), but I never got my base mileage number correct in the very beginning so each fill up I have to enter "Pick a Car" then "Category" hit "Next" button, enter "Fuel Filled", "Total Payment" and then "Next" then "Done" and then go back in through "Edit" and alter the "Distance Traveled" field and hit "Calc" just to get my mileage to track correctly. Very cumbersome process.
Can you add a "Distance Traveled" entry in the initial record entry area to replace "Curr. Odo." and "Base Odo." fields? If your Base Odo. entry was never entered correctly or you miss entering a fill up, your kinda screwed. This great program would be much more user friendly this way, I think.
I downloaded the desktop file v.5. I have been using v.2.0 on my
handheld for a while. Anything I need to know before installing the
new version. ie will it overwrite my data?
Thanks,
Scott
I am glad that worked.

3. Open the MileageDB.PDB in this program. I believe it is called importing the PDB. You will find MileageDB.PDB in backup folder of your palm.
4. You will see the data. Now you can edit the data – there could be some columns that you will not understand and it is OK. Just keep them as it is. You will definitely figure out what columns you need to change. You probably could also import the data if you have in spreadsheet – I am not quite sure about this.
5. Once the data is OK, you can export the data back to PDB and probably install it right from PDB Explorer as well.

I'm beginning to see some strange behavior on the Gas Fills section
of MyCar. I'm not sure if it's the Palm program writing bad data or
just the Desktop displaying things incorrectly. What happens is
that every time I enter a new fill and then import the data, 2
records show up. One appears to be complete and seems to have all
the correct data, etc. A 2nd record is added containing all blanks
except for "6/6/2083" entered in the "filled_date" column. Back on
the Palm there is no evidence that this 2nd record exists.
There are, however, records on the Palm that haven't come through to
the Desktop. There are older records which, interestingly enough,
seem to be out of date order on the Palm. As I scroll backward
everything is nicely in descending order until about 14 screens
back. All of a sudden the next record shown is the oldest of all
and the list starts to go in ascending order for the next 3 screens
until the end. None of these older records have come through to the
Desktop.
I would appreciate what ever advise or assistance you can provide on
this rather unusual behavior.
Thank you.
Thanks for taking time to write the suggestions. I appreciate them.
I will look into all of them and hopefully comeup with an upgrade
over the weekend.
Regards,
Rahul

I hope you don't mind a little feedback, I do love the program but
have a few questions/suggestions.
It doesn't appear that the Refresh button updates the 'Last Import'
date/time stamp.
The Gas Prices box seems to be a bit confused. When selecting 'This
Year' as the 'Date Range', there are two sections for each gas
type. One section shows 2 'Current' lines and a 'Maximum' line.
The other section displays one line for 'Minimum'. When
selecting 'Last Year' as the 'Date Range', there is one section per
gas type and each includes a 'Current' line, a 'Maximum' line and
a 'Minimum' line. This display makes more sense and would seem to
be the desired display for all date ranges.
It would be nice to have a button bar to flip between the various
categories instead of the menu.
It would be nice if the user could default the Export folder. An
alternative would be for MyCar to remember the last folder used.
How do you clean up mileage records for deleted cars? I removed a
car that had been sold but still see the mileage records when
creating an export spreadsheet.
Again, thanks for the great program. These are not show stoppers,
but I hope you don't mind some questions/comments.
It is 14.99. Thanks for pointing out the mistake on the website. I shall be sending out special promotion code in a while for you and other MyCar Group members to register. The website is still under construction. I am working on it.
Thanks,

The 'MyCar4Palm' Web site indicates the price of the desktop is
9.99. when I try to order and go to the redirects at either
Palmgear or Handango they show 14.99. Did the price change? Or,
are they adding on a service fee?
Thanks.
