Subject: [ma-eppc] Fw: Vacancy Announcement, term GS-6 Bio. Tech. (Invasive Plants) position in SEKI

SEKI-07-09EE
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN
Salary Range: 31601 to 41080 USD Per Year Open Period: 12/11/2006 to
1/12/2007
Series & Grade: GS-0404-06/ Position Information: Full-Time Term position
not to exceed 1 year, extendible up to four years in one year increments.
Duty Location: 1 vacancy - Kings Canyon NP, Cedar Grove, CA

This is a term, subject-to-furlough GS-6 Biological Science Technician. The
incumbent will lead a crew in invasive plant control, focusing on
preventing the spread of invasive plants to the wilderness. The crew will
control weeds in frontcountry facilities that have a high probability of
spreading weeds to wilderness, such as pack stations, helispots, and
trailheads. The crew will also control known weed populations in the
wilderness, and 10 or more days at a time could be spent backpacking and
working in wilderness locations. Depending on how some funding
uncertainties work out, the position may also include controlling
cheatgrass in the Kern Canyon using herbicides carried by horses and mules.
The Kern Canyon is entirely in wilderness and reachable only by a 2-day
hike. While the incumbent would not be expected to handle the stock, some
previous experience with horses or mules would be desireable. We are
seeking an independent, enthusiastic person with substantial backpacking
experience, experience working on invasive plant control crews, and
experience handling and applying herbicides.

Please note that because of funding uncertainties, there is a possibility
that we would not hire this position, but hire a seasonal instead.

Questions? The best time to reach me is after January 7, 2007.

Thanks, Athena
