North Carolina Professional Interpreters Association (NCPIA). The NCPIA-NC Yahoo Group was created to facilitate communication with foreign language interpreters in the state of North Carolina regarding education, training, job opportunities, and to provide a forum for state-wide discussion.
The purpose of NCPIA (http://cnnc.uncg.edu) is to promote clear and accurate communication between Limited English Proficiency (LEP) populations and Health & Human Services (HHS) providers:
* To promote compliance with Title VI of the US Civil Rights Act of 1964.
* To promote nationally recognized competency standards for professional interpreters.
* To assist in development and maintenance of training, quality assurance, and credentialing standards for interpreters.
* To promote professional recognition and compensation for trained interpreters in NC.
This listserv presently serves Association members and others interested in HHS foreign language interpreting. If you are interested in learning more about interpreting in the HHS environment, interpreter training or NCPIA membership, please contact NCPIA-NC-owner@yahoogroups.com.
