Intel Launches Pentium 4 Chip
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Reuters) - Computer chip maker Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - news) said on Monday it introduced the long-awaited Pentium 4 processor at 1.7 GHz, the company's highest performance microprocessor for desktop computers. It expects computer makers worldwide to launch systems based on this new microprocessor, which is available immediately, in 1,000 unit quantities, for $352. Computer makers will offer a range of system choices and prices. Intel said the Pentium 4 processor is the company's first completely new desktop processor design since 1995, when it launched the Pentium Pro processor. Shares of Intel ended at $32.43 in Nasdaq trading on Friday.
