SolidWorks Wins UPSIDE Magazine's 2001 Hot 100 Award
The Sixth Annual UPSIDE Hot 100 Award Recognizes SolidWorks' Innovation, Leadership, and Performance
CONCORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 2001--UPSIDE Magazine has named three-dimensional computer-aided design (3D CAD) software provider SolidWorks Corporation one of the hottest 100 companies for 2001, SolidWorks today announced. UPSIDE's editors and an advisory panel comprised of venture capitalists, financial analysts, and market researchers chose SolidWorks as an UPSIDE Hot 100 company in its ``b-to-b'' category in the sixth year of the award.
The panel chose the hottest 100 companies from a field of more than 800. SolidWorks ranked in the ``b-to-b'' category based on its technological achievements, customer acceptance of products and services, financial performance, industry partnerships, financial backing, and management experience. UPSIDE has published the complete list of the UPSIDE Hot 100 Award winners in the June 2001 issue of the magazine, and on the Web site at www.upside.com.
SolidWorks® software provides engineers, designers and anyone involved in the design review process with an affordable, easy-to-use 3D CAD application they can use to produce realistic 3D images. The company's flagship product, SolidWorks 2001, lets users such as Boston Scientific, Estee Lauder, Tyco International, and the U.S. Army slash design time, reduce design costs, and cut down on production errors. SolidWorks has extended 3D CAD to the mainstream market by enabling users without engineering degrees to create, change, and manipulate 3D solid models, helping companies streamline the design creation and review process.
David Bunnell, UPSIDE Media's CEO, helped create the listing of the ``hottest'' private technology companies. As a 20-year veteran in technology publishing and high-tech startups, Bunnell wants to ``remind all of our readers that, while economic cycles in technology come and go, the kinds of companies that the editors of the magazine have recognized in this list are ones that have proven, year after year, to be those companies that often rise to the top of the next cycle. They are companies and people who bring innovation and new technology to the forefront.''
Jerry Borrell, president and editor-in-chief of UPSIDE Magazine, said, ``We evaluated hundreds of great companies that spanned a broad range of technology market segments, and we are pleased to recognize SolidWorks among this year's winners. We look forward to watching the progress of UPSIDE's 2001 Hot 100 Award winners over the next year or so, and we hope they continue to make news as they potentially move from being privately held to becoming publicly traded companies.''
The UPSIDE Hot 100 award proves SolidWorks has addressed an industry need, according to SolidWorks Corporation's Chief Operating Officer John McEleney. ``You can't get ahead in this tight market unless you have a strong business model, smart management, and a product that makes it easier for people to do their jobs. The b-to-b space has changed dramatically in the past few months, and we have responded with 3D CAD technology that helps users communicate in real time, allowing them to easily work together to design, change, and refine their critical product designs efficiently.''
