SOURCE: SolidWorks CorporationSolidWorks 2001 Receives CADesign Magazine's `Best of CAD' Award
Readers cite 3D CAD software's intuitive, Windows-based environment and ease of use when voting it above competing products
CONCORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 2002-- SolidWorks Corp. today announced that CADesign Magazine has honored SolidWorks®2001 software with its `Best of CAD' (computer-aided design) award for mechanical design applications. The magazine's readers, who are designers and engineers throughout Brazil, voted SolidWorks 2001 as the easiest three-dimensional (3D) CAD software to use for mechanical design on the market. Its intuitive, Windows-based environment lets users complete product designs more quickly so they can bring their products to market faster than with competing technologies.
CADesign Magazine is a monthly magazine that caters to design professionals throughout Brazil, and has a circulation rate of over 20,000 readers. Five years ago, it began soliciting its readership for feedback on the best CAD products available. Dassault Systemes' (Nasdaq: DASTY - news) CATIA won the award each of the first four years. This year, the readers chose SolidWorks over competitive products such as Autodesk's Mechanical Desktop.
``SolidWorks popularity is growing in Brazil because users consider it to be easy to use and affordable, unlike most 3D CAD products,'' said Maria Edicy Moreira, CADesign Magazine's editor in chief. ``Users don't want to waste time trying to navigate complex technologies. SolidWorks software simplifies mechanical design by streamlining everything from part creation to large assembly development. These capabilities help engineers reduce design cycle time, so their companies can turn products out quickly.''
The magazine presented the award during a ceremony at the University of Sao Paulo in December.
``The number of engineers and designers using 3D CAD software has grown significantly over the past 10 years in response to increasing market demands for locally designed products,'' said John McEleney, CEO of SolidWorks Corp. ``This award underscores SolidWorks software's global penetration and market acceptance, which is rooted in its core value: powerful 3D product design in one single, affordable package.''
